Default My Tach quit

My tach quit, i bounced my palm off of the top of the pod a couple times....nothing. A few miles down the road it started working again. This was last Sunday and it has not missed a beat since. What gives?

Could be the main connector for the wiring harness in the engine bay (next to the + jump terminal). IIRC the signal for the tach goes through this. On my '82, and now recently discovered on the GT, the wires can be in serious decay near this terminal with lots of corrosion. Other than that, could be time to pull the pod and clean the coonectors for the electroncs there. Hopefully, someone else will have a suggestion.

My tach isn't working upon start up occassionally. Don't understand why, but jumps to life when I push the odometer reset button.

If someone knows why this works, pls let me know.

Strange Tomcat, I think you may be onto something, I had just filled it with gas and reset the odometer too. The tach was working after reseting the odometer but I could not have been more than a mile from the station when it quit. I will look at the diagrams when i get home. Damn, i just cleaned those connectors at the pod about a year and a half ago. Lol, probably time to do it again with no-ox stuff this time. In almost 6 years of ownership i bet i have had the pod apart on 3 different occasions for lights etc. The pods' probably jacked up from takiing it apart and putting it back together like some Lego set. Kinked neck here we go!

My 86 does this 2 or3 times a month. I reach under the pod and touch the connector and it springs to life.

Ressurecting this thread.....
My odo stopped working also after pulling the pod to replace the dash cover. Where are the wires located for the odo? Maybe I can try wiggling them. I pulled lots of wires when taking the pod off. Put them all back in the right places. Is the wiring on the left, right, middle?
