Default Mysterious connector

Guys, on my 86.5 automatic, the factory stereo has long since been removed and undergone several upgrades through the owners...Anyhoo, under the emergency brake handle cover, there is a "inline" 6 wire harness connector...that is NOT connected to anything. It "looks" very similar in shape, and locking tab arrangement to the connectors under the paasenger side cover that went to the amplifier on the passenger side. I am thinking,... that this driver side inline 6 wire connector, went to a "male" 6 wire connecto rand short harness, which terminated at the OEM Fader control potentiometer. This "male ended" short harness, is missing on my car, but the fader is still mounted on the E Brake Handle cover, and has 6 wires soldered to it, that have been cut off cleanly, about 1" below the Fader pot. Am I right ?? That there "was' an intermediate harness that went between the 6 pin inline female harness connector, and the "snipped" wires below the Fader pot ?? sorry for such a long post, I was hoping to explain as clearly as possible what, and where I was referring to...
