'91 GT (black) on Ebay!!

It's still out there....
Gio gave me a heads-up about this thread. I've been eyeing this car for sale in Pano for a few months and decided to contact the current owner (CO) recently. Seemed like a straight-shooter so far. Told me about the rebuilt/salvage title issue and that he was trying to get it resolved (though how much a subsequent owner can really do about that, I don't know). The CO apparently has put A LOT of $$$$ into this car in the last year, and says he has the receipts for all work done. Also gave me the name & phone # of the shop in Chicago that has done all the work and encouraged me to speak with them (haven't done this yet, but will).
I'm not necessarily opposed to buying a car with a salvage title, if the price is right, and the car checks out mechanically. I'd appreciate any other info/history other rennlisters may have on this car. The odometer allegation is troubling. 928andRC51, did you ever hear back from your mechanic if this is the same car?

As long as you know that you will difficulty in selling this car later, and that there may have been SIGNIFICANT damage at some point int he car's life, then I would say look at it, but I would also expect a significant price reduction because of the salvage title - somewhere in the $5k-$7k range. Also, it doesn't matter how much he's put into the car. What matters is how much is the car worth in the market. If everything checked out, and I mean EVERYTHING!, with the salvage title, I'd pay a max of about $12k. Hope you find something that works for you.

For a 91 GT to be "totalled" in 1995 how big of a hit would it have to have taken for the insurance company to punt and pay off the current market value of a 4 year old $75,000 car ?

I have spoken with this guy a couple of times. He has been 'trying' to fix the title for at least 6 -8 months now with no success. His asking price was not comensurate with a salvage title. Maybe that has changed since he has had no success selling it, but I think I remember him wanting in the $24K-$25K range. That's full value for a car with a clean title.

Could have been a "favor" total. Insurance companies often work with body shop owners especially if there is a quid pro quo sometimes on other jobs

I was in touch with the seller about this car months ago-- February/March-- but as mentioned, his price was not commensurate with the risk associated with the Carfax/title question. I would definitely have flown to Chicago to check it out before any deal. It was listed on the PCA site before eBay for $27k. He seems to be a successful businessperson, which is also points against him (I also do my own rudimentary background checks on sellers...). He may just not have done his diligence when he bought it, but one doesn't typically become a success by being naive, more by being cunning. I think he wants to recover what he paid for it (registry listed the auction from which he purchased it on eBay, $22k).
I don't think he put the money in, either-- it was the previous owner who put the money in, so his disingenuous representation of the investment is also a waving yellow flag. He was trying to sell it a month after he bought it.

If that car came from fall river MA or around there, that is the car that I know of. It has 150K miles or more, not 79K or whatever. There are better cars out there with no stories and mysterious pasts. I wouldn't want it.
If that car doesn't bother you, also look at the GTS in Texas at Prostar Motors...just kidding.

the pics are off the auction because the auction was 6 months ago. Not cause the seller asked or anything. I am suprised the auction number still comes up honestly.
