Sorry for your loss indeed.... such a waste of your time, money & stress. Half the time the insurance companies make you feel like YOU are the problem, that they are doing you such a favor, the "we know the law, we do this everyday, take it or leave it" attitude! You tell em Ron!!! I've been down that road once or twice myself & the bottom line is insurance is big business. They are in it to make money, at anyone's expense & grief. They want your high dollar premiums & dont want to hear from you otherwise. They'll try to get away with anything & everything they can. Every corner they can cut, every dollar they can save. I agree, they are NOT your friend... Course, they DO know "everything", just ask them.... or listen to the Experts, right??? Trust em as far as you can throw em & be your own best advocate!

As far as just a Taurus for transportation as the daily driver for a loaner... tell that to the guy who's Ferrari or Lambo just got hit by your DUI insured eh?? Thinkin your lawyer could make a strong case on that point, even if it is a 1986 that she hit. You chose to drive a 928, you didnt choose for the drunk to run into the rear of it.

NADA says $8500-$12,600.00 for an 86. Of course yours was at least $12,600.00

Sorry to hear about the hit. Had someone hit and run on my other 85, but the mechanic wrote the plate number down. The guy came back and the wrench(mechanic) made him write a statement that he hit my car. Kind of cool. It was settled, and I insisted on all new OEM replacement parts (fender at least). The claims rep agreed.
To place my opinion mildly, you can either let them steer you in the direction that will benefit them the most and you the least, or you can enlighten them with facts and objective information to get the best outcome for yourself. Research, study, inquire, read and document as much as you are able to. Properly articulated and presented to the insurance folks will gain monumental advantage for you.
Be prepared!
Additionally, well stated, Ron_H, well stated.

hey there is an 86 on ebay right now that is local, I know the guy who owns the shop. It looks to be in the same condition as mine and mileage. Maybe I should have the insurance people bid for me. hehe
