Re spraying
Has anyone ever tried to remove the aluminium door window frame and replaced them successfully for re-spraying.
Can anyone recommend which type of paint I should used for a partial re-spray in chiffon white.

Hi this is a tough part to remove without damaging it as you probably have figured out , the front corner moulding will usually break at the tabs that hold it in place and there is a rivet that must be drilled out . To remove the window moulding we used 2 guys one with a hard plastic window trowel and a hammer to tap the moulding seat from the inside of the doorand the other to apply a continuous pulling pressure while the moulding is pryed away from its seat, the pulling person must not pull too hard or too far or the moulding will get too bent to be reinstalled , also use a few layers of the the blue or green paint masking tape to be placed adjacent to the moulding so as not to scratch the paint on the door( or lift it off)it can be done but it will almost certainly bend the moulding I never checked to see how much new mouldings would cost , good luck, Stan
real PITA to remowe - but it can be done with some passion ! On my car I found it was best to start from the back and then twiggle it a little. I think they are $$$$ to buy at the local Porsche dealer !
These pieces for the inexperienced are difficult, however I now have done many. It is not difficult but a slow job, take your time. The boomerang will always break, it needs to be removed first. Remove the door trim, roll down the window. Spray WD 40 or the like under the strip, this may help ease the removal.
If you have another person to help good, tell them not to pull too hard, they are only to use their fingers. You then use a flat bar. Slowly start to lever at the boomerang end, it will start to lift. The other person just keeps pressure on the piece while you make the running with the bar on the strip. Keep levering it as you go down the strip, you will remove it this way no problem, the only hiccup you may have is due to corrosion.
Good Luck
Greg.
