Dead and towed wont start
Help! please!I have an 86 928s and last night I was sitting at a light and the car just died! I pushed it throught the intersection and would not restart. While I was waiting for the tow truck I did what I could to check the situation without tools. I pulled the air box and sprayed starting fluid and it coughed a couple times. I went to the relay panel and the ignition relay was clicking, but the fuel pump relay was dead silent. The #42 fuse was fine. Since it was dark I ran out of options, My girlfriend is german and she yelled at the car to see if it just missed Germany. suprisingly it did not help. What does the alarm do, does it cut power to the fuelpump and relay or does it do something else? What terminals do I jump to check and see if it is the relay. Where is the fuel pump? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a history of porsches dying on me in intersections. My 951 was notorious for this. I found the brains were getting wet due to a leak in the battery tray.

It sounds like the problem I am going through right now. If there is insufficient voltage from the starter relay, then the control unit will not trigger a spark nor will the the fuel pump run. Among other things, this could be a bad wire or bad relay on the starter. See my recent thread "NO SPARK". It took me awhile to discover that I had no spark which has since lead me to a deeper, but not necessarily wanted, understanding of what runs the fuel pump and ignition.
