A new twist on wiessach's dash repair
#31
Yes, I'd love to hear how some of these dashes are turning out too... I bought an extra dash that has only several vent cracks, but don't want to replace mine until the donor is perfect b/c the R&R of a 951 dash is sort of a PITFA. I know a place that will refinish dashes (non-AB style) for $500- not sure how many hours are required to pull of one of these do-it-yourself dash repairs, but I doubt I could do such a nice job... Anyone considered making a little mail-order business out of this?? How many total hours are invloved, approximately, in doing this? I'm sure the 928 one-piece solution would take a little more than a 944, but still curious... It really looks NICE IMO!
Thanks

Thanks for bumping this thread, I actually forgot to post the pictures of it in the car. I'll get on that sometime today.
Robby, this was the first time I've ever attempted something like this and yes it did take a bit of time to get it right but wasn't that bad. I'm actually going to be pulling the dash back out again next week to touch up a few things on it that have been driving me nuts. (Noone else seems to notice) Other than that I've had nothing but good response to it.

I think you did a great job & I like the texture- never really thought about it actually minimizing glare, but that's a great added bonus- I always wanted to convert my interior to linen to lighten it up & cool it down in summer. But, leaving the dash black sort of defeats this purpose- always wondered how a full linen dash would look- people say glare is pretty bad- I had my rear cargo cover (hanging style) recoverd for $50 in linen- it glared somewhat- I ended up spending $25 on spray dye to get it black- wish I'd paid $50 to have the place recover it again b/c it didn't come out too good IMO- I really only decided to go back to black b/c I decided that going through the whole car w/linen (even if I kept black carpet) would cost a ton, etc- I go back & forth on whether or not it'd be worth it all the time- I love the way linen looks when it's clean though.... would like to see your dash in-car when you get pics...
