NY 'Listers
I'm trying to find other NY Rennlisters (Brooklyn NYC here) .. i am unable to locate a suitable shop within a decent distance to take my t-belt to for re-tensioning.
I did the job at a local mech and I suspect that he didn't tension properly. I'm getting Za Riem (Za Riem = timing belt light on my 85 euro s2 [a/t]) sometimes when the car is cold, sometimes when I accelerate, and it's making me really nervous. Plus recently I started hearing a constant squeaky sound that seems like its coming directly from the t-belt area. I am very scared the tensioner/roller isn't properly done so i want to get it checked out by a trustworthy guy.
If we meet up I'll buy the beer/coffee/whatever .. and that's saying something, considering i'm a brokeass college student!

I'm from Queens, also a brokeass college student! Unfortunately I don't know any good 928 mechanics in the area. I asked on a post before and most people were pointing me towards Jersey or Connecticut...not too reasonable for us brokeass college students. My father's a mechanic so he does any of the work I can't do myself although it takes him forever because he HATES working on this car. If you find someone who knows their stuff let me know.

There is a shop on Long Island, I think called SM motorsports or something like that, I think in New Hyde Park. I've never been a customer, but he's been in business for a long time and the shop is always surrounded by Porsches, although I think he works on VW & BMW also. I bring my cars to RPM Racing (www.rpmracinginc.com), but they are further out on the island. I know, not exactly close, but better than CT or NJ.

Bronx here. I had my front end done (aluminium ball joint replacement/tie rod ends and boots) at a shop out on the Island. H&H Foreign Auto in Amityville. Head mechanic is a guy named Harold - a real good guy. His dad runs the parts shop in front and comes from der fatherland. Used to own 928s and knows them well.

Sorry Catflab, but I'm 400 miles from NYC. No advise here.

Hey good to see some local people! I was expecting maybe one or two responses.
Don't see many 928s in NY at all .. at least not in Brooklyn. Two euro owners too! I would love to meet up with one of you guys when you have a free chance and just shoot the ****, compare my 85 euro & see how far behind I am from a properly running shark.
Epic: I've gotten a recommendation for that place before, I think if I cant find anything closer I have to get there. Thanks
Heinrich : Lol thanks, picked it a long time ago when I was the owner of a rather flabby tabby myself. Had to give her away because my parents were tired of the hair and smell.

Just a tip- the search function is your friend. I recently posted this in response to a message from vcomp (and I will note that none of these places are in jersey or connecticut):
Sonny at SM Motorsports
140 Lakeville Rd
New Hyde Park, NY 11040-3004
516-775-8655
(kept my car for awhile but knows 928s. Relatively reasonable rates)
Euromeccanica
711 S Columbus Ave
Mount Vernon, NY 10550-4715
(914) 668-1300
(real nice, knowledgeable, expensive)
I've also been to Formula Motorsports in LIC. He also seems very good but I did get the distinct impression that my 928 was about his last priority. Also didn't make that much effort to fix what I had brought the car in for (correctly diagnosed a bad MAF but missed the intake leak).
When I first bought my 928 I had PAR Porsche in New Rochelle do the timing belt and water pump. They seemed to do a very professional job and were highly recommended, although they were awfully expensive and took a long time.
