Organized Trip to Nurburgring in 2006/7..?

This is a great idea and seems interesting that it pops up after all the coverage of the powerball winners. It is tough to imagine more fun with the 928 than going full blast with a pack of sharks down some scenic autobahn with us plates. We could line up 3 abreast and see who would win 50-160. And if they have some nice tunnel sections the sound would be awesome with all the x-pipes and custom exhausts.
The polizei would be shaking their heads wondering when the american terrorists were going to leave.
I have the tape of motorweek's intro of the 928GT on vhs from 1988 and they filmed in germany and show some autobahn where they claim to have averaged 160+ for a long distance and the side roads were very picturesque. That would be a helluva trip especially with some super-sharks. Nice to dream!

On the rental car thing, I would advise not to rent from a US company. They are usually much more expensive, and have crappier cars. There are excellent european companies that rent much better cars, including 911's, Fcars etc. i would recommend SIXT, as when I had my cars in for service and needed a loaner, I used them.. I ahve also used tham in France and the UK. Almost all the reps speak perfect english, and I was able to get better rates, and sometimes negotiate a better deal by being nice to the counter reps..
As far as expense goes, it will cost what it will cost.. I am not in the vacation business, and just want to see if some people wish to do a group thing in euroland.. There are ways to save $$$, sure.. If enough perople care serious, then I am sure we can negotiate good rates with hotels, airlines, and shipping. Gas is gas, and who knows what that will cost if something like this comes together..
Anyway, I'd like to do it, this year if possible as euro 928 is going to be at the ring. Next year is also fine...

Soooooo tempting. It's a great idea. As for shipping, can't we get normy with his 747 cargo jet to cut us a deal? I'll bet we can get 7-8 928s in it and fly at a significant discount, right Normy? Tony can co-pilot, my wife is a flight attendant. Heck I think we might have a viable business model here! We'll call it 928 Tours!

There might be interest on the other boards as well, I'd try the 993 forum. Those guys seem to be as die hard enthusiasts as us..
Oh, and if you can try and make it to the 'Ring on a VLN weekend. I'll get you pit passes and rides for those who want.

Maybe we should talk to Normy - he flies 747 cargo planes between the US, Belgium and Kuwait, I think. Maybe we and/or our cars can hitch a ride with him. Not sure what this would cost, of if he's bribable,...

Hello....???? Posted earlier Actually Normy flies for Connie Kalitta - of 1/4 mile fame. If it's car related, he might give us a brake. But I hear he's a dick, so... The key is to get Tony involved too as he can relieve Normy. I'll get my wife to be the flight attendant (she works for Northwest). I'm tellin' ya, we could really have a good time!

You guys are funny...! Some people are complaining about the $1200 Ocean freight rate for a split container round trip... It cost $10-12K to fly an F-car from Germany to SFO in 1997. Are you guys nuts..? You think the freight got cheaper in 9 years...?
If you can convince someone on the airline to fly us for Ocean Freight rates, I'll go both years..!
2 funny..!
