It does look like a pimp mobile. A high class pimp mobile though. I'd take it if it were free, throw some LCD screens in the dash and head rests and your rollin legit yo.

i would much rather have an S4. sounds like you're talking 15kish or so for this car? that car is nice, but for 15kish i'd much rather have a 928 S4 or if i wanted a sedan, a bmw 6sp 540i, or audi manual a6 twin turbo.

Buy the E500!
50 years from now you can say that "I had one of those." and the response from anyone who knows anything about them will be "Wow".![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
It is not a Porsche, but probably the best Mercedes ever built.

had a 2.3-16v 190e couple years ago. this was a somewhat rare car built to compete against m3's. it had factory cosworth head, factory headers, lsd, "ram air" intake. I thought i could get by with this "sporty" sedan instead of porsche. i was very wrong, sold it and got a 951, then the 928. if you can get both, different story, but if only one, i still take the porsche.

The down side to the Merc only a very few people know and appreciate what it is. When you stop for fuel virtually no one is going to notice the car or give you a "thumbs up" although it may get annoying with all those "Hoes" stuffing 20 bills through the windows.
Actually here in Orange county with all the tuner cars Brabus etc. it seems like MOST Mercedes run aftermarket wheels ,that and lowered looks "normal".

The wiring harness will self-destruct over time. This is on purpose. This due to a requirement that the wiring harnesses be biodegradable. This also happens on E400s.
That being said, I would not think twice about the E500. If you choose to pass, I would love to add it to my stable.

On a serious note, the MB will eventualy be rust. I've seen this form factor rust below the rear door windows above the door handle. To me the fact that the 928 is very hard to rust, was a factor in buying the car. Remember, you don't need snow & salt to rust, just water will do it.

I had a AMG-SLK32 which was a blast to drive, the quickest feeling car other than our Blower-Porsche... at least till it hit about 8,000 miles, then the power went. AMG and Mercedes knew about this "bug" both Mercedes and AMG said they do not warranty "performance"... well I paid $15K over non-AMG for the performance. That said the service manager at Sears Auto (the local Merc dealership) tried a buck of things amounting up to about $10K in warranty work, but never got the ***** back. The old AMG's before they were so common held their value, the new ones don't seem all that good... lost $30K in just the two years I had the car 55% of the cars value! This was one reason to invest upgrades in the 928... the better car.

For rarity go with the merc, but for looks, ride, and cool, not much beats a 928. I drive a merc sedan and while not special like the E500, it is very similiar in appearance to that. It is not a special ride just a competent one. I have checked these out on various websites and they are unique.
In fact when i went to the 1986 montreal GP in my new mustang GT, i remember dragging one (could have been a hammer) down a wide street up there. Very fast but not super desirable imo. Definately not competition for the 928.
Porsche, there is no substitute.
