Just talked to him. He already has 3 people coming to look at the car today.

Dammit, I can't get there fast enough.

"Dammit, I can't get there fast enough"

Well, if you had a 215 mph car, you 'd be able to get there in no time.

Or if I was Marty McFly, I could get there before he placed the ad and wait.

He meant to say 215 KPH... which is about 142 MPH... which means his chip SUCKS.

Obviously if this an 89S-4 when he went to hit the brights he switched the HUD from MPH to KPH.
So the guy also thought he had a stealth car cause he couldn't figurte out why cops were not pulling him over for doing 100.

Hey Guys,

I'm normally a lurker here on the forum; I’m looking for my first 928 and saw this thread last night. I spoke with the owner and the car sounds good, but after running the VIN # on Carfax it looks to be a salvage title. He did disclose that the car had been hit and repaired; he has also taken additional photos to post later today.

Nice guy to talk with, and for the right price who knows just thought I would pass along what I found out.

Salvage title raises all kinds of questions about how hard it was hit (enough to be totalled) who then looked at it and said "I can fix it" and how well it was actually "fixed". Something like 1/2 of all the totalled salvage cars in the US do get put back on the road. All too often they are fixed cheap and quick since the point often is to make money flipping the car.

From a friend who went and looked at this car with cash in hand:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I went to look at this car:

http://chicago.craigslist.org/car/135810191.html

..and it is a RAT!

It's been wrecked even though the owner claimed otherwise on the phone. Not
only that, the 'repair' was horrendous and was obviously done by someone who
knows little or does not give a damn. For example, the bar which holds and
rotates the headlights, on the passenger side a bolt was welded in place to
hold onto the bar. As a result, that headlight sticks up out of it's hole
when in the down-position. No front spoiler, no ac condenser, the front
passenger-side was one inch higher than the driver-side, blah blah blah.
His asking price is $8k, but he said he'll take $7k. I'm not sure that the
car is even worth $5k and someone wanted to fix it up.

Oh yeah, the pod was cocked to the right, no power-assisted brakes, no power
engine-wise, etc...

Pretty disappointing to say the least.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I hope this makes those who were unable to have a chance at this car feel a little better about it.

Edco,
There are plenty of good 928's out there. Keep your eyes open and be patient and you'll find a good car at a fair price. Welcome to Rennlist

209-210 for the Devek white car..... Back in august 99....still standing as the record?

George should be close to that with the new rear end.... One of the really high HP cars with the right gearing could better it.... I have a feeling this year the record might fall?

I'll have to ask Todd what RPM he was at when he backed off the gas after he reached 180mph with a 220 rear end. He said it was still pulling hard when he backed off. That was before the stroker engine.

Reality is that only a very few in the US will ever get close to the S4's 165 advertised top speed, so only those same few might be even slightly disappointed that the same car won't quite make it to 215. Maybe a buyer will do like the F-car and L-car guys, and just mention that "the seller said it will go 215!" when asked by friends how fast it will go.

80% of every job is managing expectations....
I've gotten 147mph in 4th gear in my '85S and always lusted for a long enough stretch of road to see what it would actually do when (slowly?) wound out in 5th gear. The Spokane Raceway doesn't have long enough straight-away. When shiifting into 5th gear it was like I hit a strong headwind.

Guess I need this guy's cow brand performance chip.

Brian,

I know all about the DEVEK car... I've been in it several times.. I once drove from Thunderhill to Belmont in it with Marc T.. Several other times with another Brian on the track... Fun beyone belief... Too bad we got black flagged on the track...!
