Once you have owned/driven a 400/400 plus Shark you won't go back. These cars were built for it. This isn't to say I don't love my Sharks waiting to be SC'd, I and they just know there is so much more fun to be had

As compared to any other 928 I've ever owned or in fact any other Porsche I've ever driven, the S4 5spd is solid, quick, masculine and FUN.

JimR, Gretch, I have to say that you are 100% right. But to me that's part of the amazing balance Porsche managed to hit with the S4 5spd. The car pulls like a freight train all the way from standstill, but off the line torque is just weak enough that it doesn't break the drivetrain. IMHO that it. I have proof .... my clutch is now 6 years (and 70k miles) old. Anyone that knows me, knows I do not take it easy. When I had the clutch out with the engine swap I put it right back in, because it was almost like new.

So I was going to say something and got off on a tangent. The sweet thing about the S4 5spd is the very smooth torque increase from zero all the way past 6100RPM (where I change gears).

Your right. The 928 was at the top of the performance car spectrum not too long ago. Its fast, almost too fast for most people who are used to 99% of the cars out there. Add a hefty SC system and now you have the power equal to a Carrera GT or Ferrari Enzo, and some of us huffed SC people will be in trouble. Sh*t, I was in trouble with this car before the SC, but I can handle the car, its just the cops that occasionally spot me.
Most people should not be allowed to own a car like this until they have driven and pushed the limits (safely) of a car that has 75% of the power for a while. I just have seen too many people crash and burn who were thrown (or put themselves into) the deep end of the pool, so I wont allow anyone else to drive unless they are "experienced".

Hey, if you're happy with your Shark whether it be an ole bugger, an S, an S4, GT or GTS, SC'd, TC'd, Stroked, the important thing is you are happy. hard to go wrong with a 928.

Heinrich,

If your girlfriend likes the seats so much, why put them in a Volvo when you might be able to put her in her own 928?

Mark I do agree ... however putting her into my own 928 is a far more appealing option, and I get to do that a lot with the break in rain here lately. Nothing like a happy gf for the road, sunshine and a Porsche 928

H, I agree totally. We have both a auto and a 5spd. Both are 87's. I have been driving the auto around for about a week and it is a very impressive car, a little slow off the line, but once it gets it's breath(about a half second after you stomp it from standstill) it pulls quickly. The G-TECH PRO time on this one is 6.0, best of 5 runs. The 5-spd is a beast. It feels lighter and more capable and has that instant on rush of power. It will roast the tires from 1-2 and slightly into 3rd ,but why do that? the best time on this one is 5.3 same road and circumstances. I could'nt imagine a GT or GTS running any better than a well tuned 87 s4 5spd., although they are both better cars.

Kevin, you know I watch the early S4's droop by at under 10k, and I see people hopping the 90+ bandwagon and say oh oh PLEEEEZE please please let me pay you twice what the car is worth just because it has flashy little Christmas tree lights an a freaking casio memory chip for trip .... OOOOOHHHHHHHH big fugging deal.

I'm not mad ... I just had a moment of true honesty

Don't know how you SC/stroker guys keep your licenses.

Hard enough keeping from stomping the loud pedal and getting to sit
in the back seat of a cruiser in a stock S4 5-speed. Them Ford cruisers don't
have much back seat legroom especially when cuffed behind the back.

Power is addictive.
