Default DATE CHANGED! Att'n Mid-Atlantic/DC-Area Owners! Meet @ University of MD 5/7

The car club I'm a part of here at University of MD is throwing a big event this April (probably the 15th). I'm in charge of arranging an autocrossing event for the show, so I was wondering if anyone here has any links to the SCCA or could work with me a bit with the technicalities/legal stuff that goes with it?

Also - I'm trying to get as many Rennlist/928 members to come out and have a good time and meet up here. There will be BBQ, a DJ, and a dyno ($50/2pulls). We generally have a great turnout with the Dyno, bringing in all sorts of interesting cars (last year we had a SL65 AMG TT V12, for one).

The cost for the autocross should be minimal, as we are absorbing as much cost to attendees as possible through club funds (we have $2k appropriated to us for this, we have to spend it or we wont get our $4k for next year's club funds..)

All proceeds from the event will go to charity, so we are asking that all attendees make at least a $1 donation (although more is welcome )

Also, as icing on the cake, we will have our SAE Formula 1 team doing a demo for the event. (being a major state university w/a top-rated engineering school has its benefits ...)

So any of you are interested, i'll put up the official info online/directions, and i'll remind everyone again in a month or two's time, so you all dont forget

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
in CS terms... this would be like an early-alpha version of our flyer. i'll send out a proper one closer to the actual show...
also, the auto-x event will start earlier, as we will most likely have tech inspectors on site and will require inspection before the event. (hopefully we'll have helmets for free, but no guarantees yet.)
oh, and if everyone showing up in their 928's could come in a group somehow, i think that'd be awesome :P we're trying to get as many group drive-ins as possible. (not a requirement, but it'd be cool.) I may or may not have my 928 in April (depends on how much work/fineagling i can do over spring break), and if i do, i'll try and join you guys on the way in, unless i have official duties preventing it. (responsibility? BAH!)
Food
-Soft drinks and other refreshments
Dyno
-$75.00 for 2 - 3 baseline pulls w/ A/F and printout
Unfortunately, due to the amount of cars coming, we will be unable to do the Autocross event, but we should still have an awesome event, and everyone should definitely still come!
I'll be unable to bring my 928 since it won't be ready in time for the event, so I hope everyone around here comes out, represents our awesome cars, and has a great time!
The Silver 87 S4 w GTS Rear Fascia there is my old 928.... and that it for 928's at the event. We had only 3 other Porsches there otherwise... 911 turbo, 993 w/open exhaust, and that 944.. but this is what the event looked like a few years ago... it should be an order of magnitude bigger this year (and we'll have food/dyno)
MorganRock,
I actually graduated from Twerps University some time ago. In fact, they released me with an AE degree - I still have dreams that I didn't graduate (BlueMaxx what do you do in the AE dept.?)
Anyway, it looks like all the cars (in the pics) are in the lot behind Tawes? IIRC, the dyno was in the building next to ChemE/Nuc. Maybe things have changed, it's been a while. Is there a parade to the dyno or just meeting there?
RE: May 7th. Like to come, but too far out to commit.
Hmm... I was accepted to UMD for AE and went to VT instead. Never did get that AE degree.
we have a mobile dynojet truck dyno coming in from a local speed shop.. IIRC, the meet should be in the huge lots out by Comcast, as the DOTS here at MD kept us from having the meet in Lot 1 (near Tawes) because there is a conflicting event. These events are always fun, and it looks like we will have a HUGE turnout this year. we have 25-30 active members, and each of us have taken responsibility for inviting the boards we associate with on a regular basis to the show.
if anything, just come for the fun and the good BBQ in recent years we've also had some high-dollar/high-perf cars show up for the dyno... SL65 mercedes, drag cars, high-end motorcycles... I think one of the coolest parts of the show should be the FSAE Formula 1 demo... I dont know what they're doing with it yet, but it should be awesome. They've put together a great car.
also, if you guys want, i can try and coordinate with you guys and the other porsche boards for a pre-show get-together/drive-in that will keep everyone away from the dreaded sections of 193 that destroy/bend rims... i'll set up a much nicer/more scenic drive-in route.
