Damn I am jealous!! Everyone says that rep[lacing badly worn MM makes a world of difference in the smoothness of the engine and that it makes the whole car feel different. Post your results so I have more incentive to go further in debt to get this fix done. Good luck.

Could this be a DIY procedure with regular tools?

My car had a vibration around 2.5-3k rpm which disappeared with new MMs. Also the engine sits significantly higher in the engine bay and rocks back and forth when the engine is reved from idle. Lots of work but worth it.

Perry...........do it yourself and get very intinate with your car; only expense is the RA mounts and your time.

Nothing! My car had a lot of engine vibration in the cab (122k) and when I replaced them (in my garage on jack stands on my back!) and got back in, the car was smooth as butter! Highly recommended.!

Be sure to replace the oil pan gasket while you are in there.

I am afraid I would screw something up and then have the 200.00 towing fee to deal with and a Mechanis that would likely charge me double to fix the mistakes. I too have that 3000 rpm vibration and would love to get rid of it. Also, until RA gets this mount thing figured out, I would wait anyway.

Perry-
It really isn't a bad job. Just messy. The biggest thing is having the time. If you hade 1 full day with no interuptions, you could do it in a day. With kids and a wife, it took me about a week. No hard (or tricky) at all. Look up Pirtle's write up. It's the best.

Not a 928, but my friend with a '99 M3 just replaced his MM and I could not believe the difference in how the car shifted. It went into gears far easier and the whole car was just smoother in general. Since 928s have a different transmission-to-engine configuration, the same benefits in shifting may not be realized, but i'm sure it'll fix lots of "annoying" stuff.

Good stuff Mike.

Perry, what Andrew said "in my garage, up on jack stands, on my back". It truly is not difficult, time consumming perhaps..........follow John Pirtles instructions on his site; Tony has a good write up also............and you have no cold weather to worry about.
