An Afternoon with Mr. Speake

An Afternoon with Mr. Speake
Last Sunday I had the pleasure of meeting John Speake of JDSPorsche. I was in England on a business trip and stopped by to check out John's setup. Got lost a few times on the Bloody Round-Abouts, but eventually made my way.
Clearly, John has put a lot of time and effort into his work. I had the opportunity to see the Shark Tuner setup first hand and take a look at John's spotlessly clean lab.
I picked up a Super MAF for the Big Kahuna project. The Super MAF is a re-calibrated Bosch 928 MAF that will allow me to not run out of sensor up on the top end under the higher boost levels. The Shark Tuner and Super MAF represent the missing link to my entire twin turbo S4 build.
The only sticking point was in Cincinnati at the customs inspection. "I have to open this one up" as he picks my bag off the x-ray machine. "SHARK TUNER, who owns this bag?" He had read the small sticker on the Super MAF that referenced the Shark Tuner. I had to explain what it was and he let me through.
My project is moving along, slowly but surely. Turbos arrive on Monday and Corky should be building my charge air cooler in the next two weeks. I may also be picking up a Shark Tuner for my project. Once I test fit the turbos the motor is coming up and out for tear down! The nice thing about this Shark Tuner method is I can run reasonable fuel pressures with a large injector and not have idle or low speed off idle problems. The software is really unique in its way around this issue. Consider this the proper way to rework the 928's fuel system.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank John for meeting with me and to relay that fact that his work is top notch. You get what you pay for. Like it says in Bell's Maximum Boost book about reprogramming ECUs. "These guys are real scarce and real good". This situation is no different.

Explain "The Shark Tuner and Super MAF", what is this an ECM piggyback?
I'm about to pick up Split Seconds PC004 unit to convert the AFM to MAF. Is their somthing better John has to offer?

Sharktuner reminds me of the EEC tuner or tweecerR/T for the ford EEC computers, they come with a vane air meter just like the 84 and older 928s but people use software to rewrite the cpu in the computer to use a maf. It works pretty good.

Toofast, you need the PSC1-009 unit from Split Second...that is what my 4.5 liter turbo cars run. It works well. I can hook you up with the setup you need, complete with the program for the PSC1-009 and the proper hotwire. Plan on 15+ hours to dial it in yourself.
I've found less and less time for the car in the last week or two since I have found another "interest" outside of work and cars Plus it is darn cold here right now!
