Ask Eric B. from Shak-Attack. He did this on his 928 and has all the info on what size washers/shims to use. He brought some with him to last years Toronto 928 Fall Drive.

IIRC - it is recommended, but not "necessary".

I used shims when I did mine. (Sorry - can't recall the size - BUT - take one of the MM's with you to the hardware/fastener store, as you will also need different size nuts - your new MM's aren't metric)

As a matter of fact Eric B. supplied the nuts and I sourced the washers/shims . He used washers/shims , but was interested in what others have done.

Measure the height between the mounting surfaces. Mine were 76mm vs reported 78mm for new OEM mounts. I added 2mm thick flat washers, but as Mark said, it was likely not necessary.
My mount studs were standard M12x1.75 ( vs M12x1.5 OEM) .... some report the #2698 to have SAE threads.

My experience was the same as Garth's. I figured the collapsed OE mount was sitting at 65mm, so 76mm was a huge improvement - forget the "shim". Still running smooth!

Garth S,
All the 2698 MM I have seen (there are lots) have been metric M12x1.75.

Ok no problem. The winter meet has already happened back in January. The fall meet is usually not till Sept. or Oct. If there is a summer GTG I'll send you a message.

I see you live in Caledon. I work for the Region of Peel (Brampton), maybe in the spring we can meet up. BIMMERMIKE from this board also lives in Hamilton and is itching to go for a drive.

If you give us Michigan guys enough notice, we can probably come up with a few additional cars! The 401 makes it a pretty quick trip.

Ouch. Maybe you guys should come down here!

As for the local constabulary, of all the times I've driven to Toronto, I have only see one giving out tickets. Most of the traffic seems to flow at about 80-90 MPH.

Ok... no more hijacking.
