Default Jager Door Arrestors!

I installed the jager door arrestor kit today (drivers side only..passenger is fine)....of course it wasn't quite as easy as it sounded....but I got it installed after some "finesse"....the bummer is the jager arrestor is noticeably bowed up from the factory arm? No matter what I did it stayed bowed and the supplied zip tie isn't strong enough to hold the "bow" down?

Do I need to remove it and re-bend it to make it flat...does it matter? The good news is it works perfect now!

Heres a pic

My kit came with a couple of zip-ties to keep it from bowing too much. 1 for each side. Got them from Nicole that way.

Yes, each kit should include the zip ties. I'm not sure why it leaves a gap between the original arrestor and the titanium part - I will ask Paul about it.

In regards to any squeaks - this can be fixed easily by greasing the parts well.

My first one got schrunched and Paul replaced it FOC.
The second one lasted about six months.
The idea is great but the tie wraps are not the answer.
They worked fine and then you close the door and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I will just buy new door arrestors.

Mine have been on for 2 years and they still work well.... just squeaky.

Nicole, I thought greasing them would be contrary to the whole idea!

I did create a subtle reverse bow to them before installation. I've never seen any separation from the stock part.

You can remove & bend the shim to make the gap smaller - this is cosmetic. The zip ties are used to stop the arrestor from bouncing too much, which can happen on a quick close.

The doc's 90S4 (low miles from Japan) had the arrestor siezed wide open, but actually in good shape clearance wise -not too worn. I installed the the shim which sort of "woke it up" and it squeaked and made horrible grinding noises. So I used penetrant to dissolve the rust & ended up belt sanding down the shim to a lower thickness (~0.020") and with grease the door worked fine and has been without problems since. I think if you run into trouble with the shims, this is likely the cause.

My 928 4 years on one arrestor.

Cheers,

Paul

So far it is quiet....& it works perfect!!! I skipped the passenger door since it is much tighter....but one day I'll have to do that one too!

Dont get me wrong - I think the product is a great idea - I have just had some bad luck it would seem.

Mine worked fine until they tore at the top by the bolt.

Wish I'd seen this thread before I bought mine.

Spent hours today trying to get them installed, got grease on my silverknit door carpet, bent them into bizarre shapes, and finally tossed these into the "drawer of 928 stuff that doesn't work".

I have refurbished one of my original ones, took it off, cleaned it and reduced the space between the rollers and reinstalled. Just like a new one, only labour required. Can't do this if the rollers have gone out of round or if the bumps on the arm are too worn, but worth a shot if you have the time.

I looked at this option and went with the factory replacement “928 537 033 04” on my white 88 S4 - $33.00 and an 1 ½ hours of my time and the door works like new. I did have the Bill Ball guide to pulling door panels which helped a whole bunch.
