BTW - not to hijack the thread, but that avatar isn't a doctored picture. Porsche was building the 500E/E500 for Mercedes from 1990-1994. The cars would be shipped to Porsche as bodies in white where the firewall, trans tunnel, and rear floorpan would be modified to accept the engine, trans, and diff from an SL500. Porsche would then ship them back to Mercedes for paint and then they'd go back to Porsche a second time to get the drivetrain installed and final assembly. Then there was one more trip back to Mercedes for final inspection. The whole process took 18 days. I suspect that picture was taken when Porsche was sending a car back to Mercedes after final assembly.

Trust me - the car is literally a four door 928. Big time fun!

Definately up for that.......Run in the white mountains, through the notches (canyons). I can offer my place as a jumping off point and we can have a big cookout there too......All up to Ernest.

Count me in for the run.
I'm getting flack from the DFW crowd about the idea of shipping the GT. Looks like we'll be caravaning a 26' U Haul with a QX4 on a trailer, Pam will be driving the Mercedes and I'll be taking turns driving the GT.

Ernest-
They just want to make sure you leave!

P.S. you still have to install my HIDs before your exit visa can be processed.

Hmmmm, I never looked at it that way, but you may be right.
Drop on up to the DFW area and we'll do your install AND buy you lunch.

I think you'll like living in the country. Looks like no shortage of offers to drive the shark for you. Hire a college kid to drive the U-Haul and you drive the 928!!

Jim, looks like we have the same car grouping. Is your E500 the wine color in the avatar? Mine's the same. I think 0-60, the MBZ may be quicker than the 928, due to the rear axle ratio, which is like 3.26 to one or something. Feels like 4.11 gears though.

Good luck on the move.

I can recommend Thomas Sunday Transportation. I did a lot of searching when I shipped my 1933 Franklin Olympic Conv. from PA to CA. Thomas Sunday was the best enclosed shipping I could find. They picked up the car in PA and it went into the "nose" of the trailer and didn't budge until it was off loaded at my home in Santa Rosa 10 days later (first on - last off). Excellent job and nice people to work with. $1425 door to door, coast to coast (five years ago). They advertise in Panorama. 1.800.541.6601.

Donald,
Get together with Roger and set up a tech session at his house. We'll all be there to criticise, er, help.

Gretch,
DANG man! How come you haven't organized an event yet? ( At least one I've heard of ) I'd really like to do this too! Canyons!?!!?? Haven't seen any of those, since I left SoCal!

Ernest,
When in June, is the move? If it's late enough, and you aren't frantic, packing up the house still, I'm gonna make you a suggestion, along the lines of a rest before the actual move, you and your Lady drive the shark to SITM ( June 2-4 ), then on to NH ( and temp storage ), then fly home to finish the move, when that occures. One "less" car for you to worry about.
I thoroughly advocate long trips in sharks, it's good for them, it's good for you!
