Any Interest? -928 parts car
My friend's father is contemplating selling his 928 for parts, what kind of interest do you guys have in this?
For starters, this car is not in the prettiest shape, it doesn't have many windows left, it's tri-coloured, and as far as I know it doesn't run. It's also an automatic.
I don't know the year, or what specific model 928 it is, I don't know the milage, or the condition of parts.
The car is located in Ulster County, NY.
I can get more information if anyone is interested. This may take a while, I haven't met the man yet, but I've talked to his son.
Can you please tell me what he can expect to get out of a sale?
Thanks for listening! This is my first Rennlist advertisement, so any comments or criticism are always welcome.
Sincerely,

I think I'll tell him (when I talk to him) that he would be better off getting rid of some parts and junking the car.
Let's see, the rims would go for some money. Seats would probably sell, but I'm not sure of the condition of them...as they only looked nice. The rear hatch still has it's glass and is more than likely usable. (I only saw a partial...friggin cover was in the way.)
From what I hear, these kind of cars are worth more in parts than sold as a whole, no?

Get some pics. Check for a sunroof, federization sticker or Euro VIN, 16V or 32V.
Saving the whole car would be better than parting and scrapping it, especially if the body is decent. Every car is worth more in parts than as a whole.

From the sounds of things I highly dout it's a 32V-er or an S4! It's probably a '79-81 16V US car.
944kid, if you can get us the VIN it will tell us at least the year and the rest can be figured out from there on. Unfortunately used body parts for the 928 are not as much of a demand as for the 944. It's a lot easier and quicker to part out a 944than an early 928.

I do know for a fact it's not an S4! Dreamers...pshh! (just jonesing y'all of course)
Imo000- I'll see about the VIN. Thanks for rubbing in the whole 944 inferiority bit in...whaddareya tryin to say? (kidding again)
Dan- I'll talk to the owner soon, within the week from today.
The real motivation behind me advertising it here is I'm trying to get a 944. If I can get him to sell the 928, we (I) can get a 944 for cheap. (Read: $100, a full car...who cares if it doesn't run...we have ways! ) I'm not in any great situation to own one right now, parents aren't seeing it as I am- a project; something to keep me busy. However, if I can work on one with someone else, (I'm even willing to pay for it, and parts.) I would be greatful.
I'll post more info when I recieve it.
Until then all,

Nah bro, I didn't meant it like that. There are alot more 944 out there so there is a lot larger demand for used parts. Also for some strange reason I see lot more " I smacked up my 944 last night, parts needed" post on the 944 board than here!

Check for the year. If it is earlier CIS car, then 250-300$ wouldn't be impossible(I am talking about myself).(Does it have all the fuel lines and injection components in it? What color is interior? Pics?)

yeah... I may be interested... just parts though... I am in iraq right now, but get me some more info and I'll have my car guy back home contact you. I may be looking for some components. but, mileage is big, as well as certain other circumstances... why it doesnt run, why it is tricolered, etc.

Alright, more information!
The car is an 86 S, with 87 body parts. Colour is light metallic blue, dark blue, and maroonish red on the rear. The colour is sanded down in some areas. I don't recall if it had headlights and tail lights but I don't think it has them. (Maybe they're on the inside...it's filled with parts, so they could be hiding!)
I'm sure if I could get the: windshield, both door windows, the sunroof, and the passenger side rear quarter glass that it would be a road worthy car.
Also, I'm told by my friend (who yesterday gave me the opposite impression) that the car will run if given a new battery. We'll see.
I can't get pics until I get together with his dad and talk things over with him. Ant says he wants to part it out, but if it runs we can prevent that right?
I'll keep those interested posted and pics will be provided when I can get them. I'm sticking to my within a week promise.
Thanks,

Now if it's an '86.5 that woudl be even better. The suspension parts alone are worth a few hundred $$ and there is a demand for those!!! If you van get the exact VIN, it will tell us if it's just a regular '86 or the more rarer '86.5.

I've asked for the VIN just today, so soon enough it will be here!
Tell me, what is so special (I know you said suspension) about the 86.5? I didn't even know they made one! Details!
Thanks,
