I'd have to be careful in this situation because if two were done before me, I certainly wouldn't want to be the 3rd Osterreich...

Thanks. Being a smarta$$ is something I can do well. More often than naught, I can stoop to an all new level.

Any thoughts on the serious portion of my post? i.e. dying (leather, that is) and your price?

Regards,

David

Enough said. I'll concentrate on other mods/upgrades. Thanks.

If there's enough interest I may be able to put together another group purchase of leather dash covers using Porsche leather.
For many people the first concern is cost and I thought the price last time was reasonable considering it was genuine Porsche leather and the quality of the work excellent.

335 for the dash cover
70 for a set of A pillar covers
225 for the console cover.
40 for the glove box cover. That was a little high. But I had to buy another hide to get these cut.

If there's 15 or so people that will get in on it, I'll check the price of leather hides and see if the leather guy wants to do it.

Some wisdom I picked up from last time.

Colors other than black or brown will require at least 3 orders. In other words if you want blue, hopefully 3 people wanting blue will order also.

Cowhide varies in grain and texture. Sometimes one piece will have a smooth grain and another part of the same hide will be more or less grainy. So you glove box may have a different texture that the dash.

Those of you that are interested, send me a PM and if there enough interest I'll post a message with the details.

We never were able to produce a high quality leather pod cover. I'll look into it again, but I can't promise anything.

Rob,

What's the installation process over the oem vinyl ?.
Does everything have to come out of the car?

If I ever do my dash, it will be Suede or some other exotic hide like panda or albinos gorilla.

Porsche covered the vinyl dashes in leather. Make sure its clean, with no gloss or wax, etc. Rough it up with sandpaper.
Use a good quality contact adhesive for the leather cover.
The dash must be out of the car. Same with the console and A pillars. Its a tedious job, but well worth the effort.

I think I'll look into having some made in vinyl. The leather guy I work with refuses to do any in vinyl, but I may have a line on someone else who will do it.
The price should be half of what the leather is.
Again, I can't promise, but I'll look into it.

Rob is right. For those who are willing to take their dash out of the car, a well tailored leather cover is the way to go. But for those who don't want to take the dash out, I'll do my best to offer a quality alternative.

I will also be open to the weird requests of those who want something custom or exotic.

Paul,
IIRC if you have removed the glovebox and the pod. All that is left is to remove the center console and 4 screws hold the dash in place.
Having done this a couple of times I did not see a problem with removing the dash.
I would want to get as close to factory as possible.

Rob. Put me down for a definitive order of a black leather dash skin.
