I have to ask this, with the last of VIN being 1899 is this or not a 86.5? There seems to be some question whether it is or not. I thought if the VIN ends with 1000 and above it was an 86.5 right? Meaning S4 brakes, suspension and some had S4 exhaust. Now I am getting confused

Congratulations - the 86.5 is a very desirable type of 928 and you will not be disappointed. And don't feel bad about joining us sharkoholics anonymous here on rennlist. We've been through everything before and are here to listen and give advice.

UncleNick... Welcome. You are going to love that car. You should probably spend the $20-$40 it costs to join rennlist. You will not find a better group of people to help you with anything that might need attention on the car. Also, do a search for Jim Morehouse to get the repair manuals (and a whole bunch more) on CD-Rom. Post lots of pics when you get it.

I was watching that particular auction, because it is a sweet example of the much discussed "transition" model - the 86.5, and am glad to hear that a true enthusiast picked it up and is now posting here.
