Clutch Problem

My clutch seems to be dragging AGAIN! The entire clutch assembly is new, replaced about 1000 miles ago, short shaft about 300mi ago. The clutch had operated fine after replacement then began to drag terribly, would grind in all the low gears. This required the replacement of the short shaft, which I found to have worn splines near the flywheel. I adjusted the intermediate plate and the clutch behaved for quite some time, until this weekend. The issue is this:
After driving the shark until she is good and warm (about 30 mi) the clutch will start to drag. I can actually hear the TT spinning with the clutch pedal down. It does not drag nearly as bed as before, but I cannot select reverse without grinding the gears. Additionally, some days the clutch will not drag at all.
Could this be an adjustment issue? Anyone else have reoccuring/tempermental dragging issues with the older double disc set-up?

This sounds like an adjustment issue. Remember warm versus cold and expansion, etc etc. It only takes a few millimeters to make a clutch "drag". I would back the intermediate plate out and see what happens. How about checking the master cylinder also and the actual physical adjustment of the clutch pedal.

Ok... I still have not dove into my clutch job yet, so please excuse me as I don't know all the terms for the different parts yet. With that disclaimer, let me tell you what Dennis did here in Detroit. He has an '82 Wissach ed. His clutch was hanging and giving all kinds of trouble. He spoke to a guy that used to work on 928's at the local P-car dealer and he said to use some valve lapping compound on the shaft, and to slide the clutch assembly back and forth on the shaft until it's smooth. Clean off the lapping compound and regrease. The clutch is like butter now. This is how it was explained to me, so hopefully it makes sense to you.

Dave,
I assume I should back the IP out toward the rear of the car. Also, the master and slave are both new. The clutch rod at the pedal is set to spec. adjustment. I have measured the travel of the slave rod and it is within spec. I will re-visit the adjustment.
Andrew,
Yes, you did make sense. It is a must for the clutch discs to move freely on the splined shaft. This is why I have to replace my shaft when I found that a small "lip" had worn into the splines. This prevented my flywheel disc from sliding away from the flywheel whan the clutch was released.
