Door mirror painting
The door mirrors are starting to show some battle scars, and I think it might be time for them to get a repaint.
I have heard that the aero mirrors that are sold as an upgrade kit for older model year Porsches are made of plastic. Are the aero mirrors that came on cars originally equipped with them also made of plastic?
Is there anything special that needs to be known about painting them if they are plastic? Does some sort of special paint stripper need to be used? Any special primer or paint after the old paint is stripped off?
After they're repainted, I'm thinking about installing some of the Stonegard protective film over them, to try to protect them in the future. Any experiences with that? Is it fairly easy to apply yourself, or is it something that needs to be done by a professional installer to get good results?
