I hear you Tony, Globalization may seem like a good idea when you drop by Harbor Freight but the overall impact on the value of "labor" has rather ominous consequences... putting the squeeze on the employees to compensate for poor management can only go so far !

The problem with any sort of entitlement program (medicare, social security, pensions) is that at the time of inception it was never imagined how disproportionate the people collecting vs. the people contributing can become. Sometimes the best-intended promises can't be kept, and it's very difficult to make accurate predictions, especially about the future.

Perhaps more accurate is that those in power who make the "promises" have little or no expectation that they be around when the "promises" need to be fulfilled...

The benefits of the programs are also vastly greater today, than when they were created.

Of course all politicians agree that the solution to any problem with their programs is to provide more funding.
