Default Need some help with rear marker lamps

Title says it all. Well almost. The driver side rear marker is out. Checked the bulb and it was fine. I have been trying to find links to wiring diagrams and do not have the WSM yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes I have used the search feature and did some reading but haven't found any linkies as of yet.

Oh, the other thing is that I pulled a sylvania 5007 out and the replacement that I had picked up was a 5008? The two look very similar. Not sure on the rating on the 5007 r5w the 5008 is r10w?

One of the inherent "faults" of the 928 is the fact that the two rear side marker lights eat a lot of water from the rear tires and then corrode. The tail light bulb warning light comes on to let you know that one of your lights is out (be sure to check the license plate lights too). No big deal. Just find the one that's out and then take the bulb out, sandpaper all the metal pieces and re-install the bulb. Then find some water repelling silicone (etc.) type spray and water proof that darn light assembly! Of course, you really could have a bad bulb too!

"Clean the contacts, replace the bulb (Osram 5007 BA15s),"

I will try to checking the passenger lamp tonight but in the mean time I will keep looking for wiring diagrams. The + and - leads at that rear lamp ARE, not hot, no juice. Tried that too.

Michael,

I had that problem with the car when I first got it. I wish I could remember the the color of the wires. I found the problem to be a splice point for the wires under the carpet in the hatch ( you might need to remove the tool kit cover too ). I found 2 wires that needed to be reconnected at the splice point. I just pushed the metal tab back up into the plastic tube all the way and the rear marker came back on and stayed on until it just went out on you again. That wire may have wiggled loose over almost a year of driving.

Great! Thanks Jason. I will take a look at that as well. Well I have had the carpet in and out several times as I keep it on a charger while I am looking at other electrical things. It is very likely that I may have caused the problem myself.

Hi Michael, lift the rear hatch and the carpet look for 2 connectors near either corner of the floor area turn on your parking lights then go wiggle each connector till you see your lights come on.
These connectors seem to get wet and then corrode you might try cleaning the connections out and try squeezing the females a bit to make em fit a bit tighter you will see what I mean, goodluck, Stan

I did all the same wiring and bulb checks that you have done and probably will do, but ended up having to change out the bulb check unit itself to fix the problem.
It is mounted on the map tray for the earlier models and the later model is mounted to the glove box.

Here is the thread I used: Bulb Check thread

Well Jason you were right it was wiring. There is a terminal connector that is/was hangingin the spare tire well. Problem almost solved. Everything works now. Back to question # two.

A sylvania 5007 is what I pulled out and the replacement that I had picked up was a 5008? The two look very similar. Not sure on the 5007 r5w or the 5008 r10w? I guess I'll put the 5007 back in based on Nichols write-up and hold onto the 5008's.

I'll be looking to replace the 2 pole connector back there as it is shot and will no longer hold the pin in. Can I get this through any of the 928 shops or do I need to go through someone like eagleday?

Guess I'll give this a bump. Oh, Jim I got the order today. I guess that it is 5007's for sure now since I have a few spares
