Default GPS installation

Okay, I'm sure someone has thought of this already, but here goes. I've found a radio-Cd player with a 7 inch flip screen that will take RCA input for less than $300. I've found, but not yet locally, an adapter 15 pin laptop to RCA output. I have measured the tray under the glove box and I believe if I can find on old used one and remove the back, it will hold my laptop very nicely.

The goal here is to use my Street Atlas, which I love and hook it up to this 7in flip screen and stow the laptop out of the way. I could still have a cordless mouse to operate the laptop, but it would be a lot simplier than trying to balance the laptop on the passanger seat which means my lovely wife can't ride with me. Bad idea.

The obvious advantage is an easily and inexpensively updatable GPS database (through Street Atlas) and a laptop that I can use the other 99.9% of the time and a 7" GPS screen which is a lot larger than the Garmin critters, all built in.

1. Has anyone ever put this very inexpensive option together?
2. Does anyone have a black tray that they would part with at a cheap price?

Funny you should say that. On a few occasions, she has, but in the long run, it doesn't seem like the way to go.
