Default Cam Chains guides - longevity in a 928...

I posted this in the 924/44/68 forum..

Where can we purchase the plastic CAM Chain guides??? I did a search couldn't find a source. Thanks in advance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have thought of a reason for the cam chain pad failures in the 944S/S2 v.s. the 928's and that is the differences in vibration between the two motors.

A lot of plastics typically get harder with age or as they get "worked" and less ductile. Less ductility means they can't handle impacts or deformation as well and this leads to cracks.

A high frequency buzz on the plastic is like constant impacts and may eventually cause it to harden and crack at the mounting points.

My guess is that the interval for the 928 will be double the interval for the 944S/S2 motors, or well into the 200K mile region.

Cheers,

Paul Jager

It depends. Sometimes they are well worn at well under 100k and other times there is barely noticeable wear. Guide for tight side of tensioner should be available separately but loose side guide is not. See this thread for more details:
