eBay '89 silver S4 75.5K miles - nice???
This car certainly "shows" nicely in the pictures. Anyone interested in bidding on it should know that CarFax shows the "mileage unknown" for this car. Neither the seller in TX, who had it listed on eBay a few weeks ago, nor E&H seem to provide that info. I e-mailed the TX seller, notifying him of the CarFax info, and got no response. I've also e-mailed E & H, it'll be interesting to see whether they modify their listing!!

E&H responded promptly. Their response follows. Good to know they answer e-mails AND follow rennlist!! Anyway, I have nothing from CarFax or the state of Ohio indicating the mileage is correct. E & H indicates it is correct mileage. You guys who are lawyers might call it "hearsay" evidence.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH, AS I DID ON THE CAR. I TALKED TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER JEFF SMITH IN TOLEDO, WHO VERIFIED THAT THE DMV AMDE A MISTAKE IN RECORDING THE MILEAGE. THE MAILES ARE CORRECT AT 75,XXX. PLEASE AMEND YOUR POST ON RENNLIST, IT LOOKS BAD FOR ME, AND IM ONE OF THE MOST HONEST GUYS IN THIS BUSINESS.

I'm sure "Jeff in Toledo" is one stand up guy......
The "mailes" must be correct.... Duh.
I spoke with Abe Lincoln's father's boss, and he told me the miles were correct....

Rather than bashing the dealer, we should ask how the mileage can be verified. If there is documentation confirming that the mileage is accurate, wouldn't this resolve the issue?

Well, in all fairness the car does look pretty good in the photos. And "mileage unknown" doesn't necessarily mean that it's not 75,500 or so. It looks like it has service records up to the 35,000 mile point. May have been sold around then. He does say that the timing belt and water pump have been changed recently. If he, or the previous owner, have service receipts, then the mileage is probably listed(as most mechanics do write it down) on the service paperwork. And let's be honest...the idea of the DMV making a mistake isn't beyone the realm of possibility. Especially if the car has changed states a couple of times.

He does say the dash is in "great shape", but has a picture showing two cracks along the defroster vents. And that paint is real clean for 75k miles and he notes that "no paintwork." It is possible though.
The guy has over 700 positive feedbacks at a 98+% rate. No negatives in over a year. Not bad for a used car dealer.
The car looks good and it's a no reserve auction. Maybe a Rennlister could slide over there and take a look at it. One might ask the dealer if he would allow a PPI, paid for by the winner, prior to final payment. If he's a stand up guy, he probably won't have a problem with it.

Do a forum search on xnfl or E&H Motors and see if you feel comfortable doing business with these folks. They do sell a lot of 928s, so they have been discussed here at length. My impression of them is less than good. Seem to be spit shine and spin salesman... perfect for the eBay marketplace.
Here is a discussion I remember:

With that car I wouldn't be worried so much about the possibility of altered mileage as I would be about getting an accurate assessment of the mechanicals. Verifying that the TB and water pump have been changed "recently," all of the electrics are working properly, etc. Like I said, I'd try and get them to let me do a PPI before final payment. Based on their description, that one seems almost to good to be true. And we know what they say about those...

What a shame that people out there pray on those eager to get into a P-car, only to be crushed when they find out that great deal is a bottomless money pit. I don't get the no negative feedback part though. If the car isn't as promised, why not say that?

I have no personal experience with E & H. However, there was an attendee at SITM this June who had recently purchased a very pretty Midnight Blue/white '91 S4 from them. The car was nice, but he was unhappy with them, as it was missing the belly pans, and had a few other problems, even though he said they had told him it was "complete and perfect" before his bid/purchase. A couple of us helped him with some of the problems he was experiencing with the car.

Does E&H post? If so who is it?
Buying 928's from dealers is risky at best....sure they will detail the car really well to make it shine..& maybe fix a couple cosmetic items to make it show better.... The best 928's to buy are from fellow 928ers who for some reason (hopefully moving up to a GT or GTS) had to sell one.... I would still want a PPI from someone other than the selling dealer!
On the flip side....it must be hard for dealers who move alot of 928's....fairly inexpensive car with very expensive repair bills if something goes really wrong...real easy to get a very unhappy customer!

If anyone would like to know of my dealings with E&H, please email me.
Mine is a nightmare story with an o.k. ending, but I don't wish to talk about it here.
This much I'll say on this public forum. If I had it to do over again, I would not have purchased a 928 from a private dealer. I shouldn't have been so cheap back in 1996. Buying from a Porsche dealer would have put me back another $10K, but in the long run it would have been worth it.
Now that Pdealers don't have them for sale anymore, I think buying one from a Rennlister is the way to go.
