Can anyone recommend a machine shop in the northeast PA, northern NJ area that does engine rebuild work?

Thanks Rick, but I'm near Philly. Hey Moe where abouts are you? And what kind of engine work are you talking about?

I'm about 30 minutes north of Allentown. Where abouts in Philly are you?

This is with 944 engines. I need to have a thread repaired. The previous owner totally boogered up the one thread at the front of the head. It will need to be aluminum welded and redrilled.

Or if I go with the other block, it will need to have broken of bolts removed.

And then all the other stuff will need to be done, like measuring and balancing the crank, resurfacing flywheels, etc.

I'm not in Philly, I'm about 20 miles away in Conshohocken. For my 928 stroker I used R & W Enterprises. (Ron Whitney) He is the best machine shop bar none for European motors. He does the research & development for BMW Motorsports NA engines. If you went to any of the big city new car shows, he built the modified BMW engines you saw on display. As a matter of fact, he was doing the balancing on my stroker motor last winter & my engine got put on the back burner because he was building the motors for the Philadelphia Car Show first. His prices are half of what other shops charge. He does not advertise. His phone number is not in the phone book. His shop is next to his home out in the sticks near West Chester, Pa. He can do it all, mild to wild.
If you want his phone number let me know. It's worth the trip.

Hammer,
I'll second that. A good friend and Aston guru has been using Ron Whitney for years. He is definitely in the boonies. He did the head and machining on a 4 liter DB4 I had. The engine screamed and compared favorably to an RS Williams prepared Zagato I had shared track time with.

Try Windsor Machine. It is in NJ, about an hour from Phili.Near Princeton. The specialize in 944, but can work on 928 also. I did my heads with them. For the headwork, resurfacing, cleaning and pressure test they collected 520$.(both heads) The leakdown test yelded good results.
