If the core flows as much as the inlets indicate, (2.5",over the 951's 2.1") he's good to 450 before the restriction becomes really big..

You could run two of those in parallel for virtually no pressure drop, but your radiator may suffer. SAAB intercoolers are often run at 26+psi (disabled wastegate, Bosch blowoff generally operates at around 26psi), so I'd assume a Volvo IC could also handle that. The SAAB ICs will also handle over 350WHP on 2.3L 9000s before needing an aftermarket replacement.

Matt, check a few SAAB websites, the 740 IC is a common upgrade over the factory SAAB units.

It wouldn't surprise me. All of my SAABs were non-turbos, and my father refused to reprogram his 2.3LPT 9000 for real boost. Last time I paid attention to the turbo stuff was before I first tried to buy a 928... 1998. Then I went to college and my car money became beer money. I wonder if DR knows what happened to that 928.

What about 850/S70 intercoolers? The T5s were supposed to be pretty hot cars.

Yup, that's correct. Also, alot of other groups use them as a cheap upgrade too(Mustang SVOs, All the Dodge/Chrysler turbo cars and some of the early 300ZX turbo owners like to use them).

During my research I looked at EVERY OEM IC that was available on the planet (that would be ebay and the net). The Saab 9000 ICs are about half the size of the Volvo. Volvo seemes to have the largest frontal area and the in/outlets are 2.5" The in/outlet size is what cought my attention. If they are stock 2.5" then they must be built to flow some serious numbers.

Using two would not work, there is not enough room between the head light motor/armature and the radiator. Also my electric fan is monted on the front of the rad. I made the mistake of buying the fan last winter, way before I came up with the idea to boost the car. Because of this, the fan is a 16" unit and the extended crank pulley doesn't allow me to install it at the back of the rad. If I would have known this it would be 2 small electric fans instead.

I've called the local wrecking yard and the IC will be ready to pick up tomorrow after 1pm.

Here is the site I used to get an idea what might actually work for the 928. The text is in Polish ( I can only read/speak Hungarina and Serbian) but the rest is pretty self explenatory.

Imo, I think you mean the 900 IC which only covers the lower half of the radiator. The 9000 IC is pretty big.
stock

aftermarket direct replacement 500x380x50mm

Oh well, the 740 IC seems to be the thing to get. They're also probably more plentiful.

edit: oops, noticed your cool link after I posted.

Sorry, that's what I ment the 900 IC. The Volvo IC is only $65. For that much it's worth a try.

If it doesn't work I can always sell it to a buddy. There a a few arond here that are boosting 2.0L Nissan NX2000s. Now those little suckers are really built for FI.The 2.0L DOHC Nissan engines (SRD20) are capable of handling over 15psi without any problem. They have forged internals just like the turbo versions but the turbos are only available in Japan. All Nissan did was put a regular exhaust manifold and rise the compression a little. With a $1000 DIY tubo system it pulled away from my N/A 928. Even at +120mph he managed to slowly pull away from me!!

The IC is here!!! I picked it up earlier today. It's BIG. The In/Oulets are nice an big too (2.5"). The overall dimensions are slightly smaller (2" in width) than the 928s radiator. Man it'll be a tight fit. I pulled the electric fan to see if I can somehow fit it in there. So far is looks like it will fit with very few modifications to the bottom rad support. I need about 1/2" to clear the hood. Also, I have to make a little room to shift the IC to the passanger side a bit. The headlight motor armature is interfering with the driver side end tank. I need about an inch on that side to clear. The electric fan has jsut enough room to squeez between the IC and the front of the car. I'll do some massaging tomorrow.
