Default 86.5 auto tranny shift "firmness"

Does the 86.5 have the same adjustment on the side of the tranny for shift frimness as the 87 does?

Tony... I am "all ears" here...My 86.5 (VIN #1104)...shifts "all right"...but in my estimation, could "use" some noticeable "firming up"...not necessarily a "shift kit", but on the other hand maybe just that. Anybody make a shift kit, for the Mercedes transmission in our 86.5 ??? Maybe one or ALL of the Big 3 could capture alot of orders for just this type product ?? Hmmm....

Does the shift firmness coincide with the shift points?

Currently my 88 will shift out of 1st at 5K rpm's. I'd like to push that back to 6k (if possible) rpms and have her bite a little bit harder.

With my 92 GT Mustang I installed a shift kit which shifted all geasrs a 220 psi (Transpak Shifkit). I broke 2 input shafts in less than a year with that.

Just leave the vac line off (plugging the engine side of course) and it will kncok fillings out.

Darrien has his car on the lift at the base and cant find the little black nub/cover for the T fitting.
I thought maybe the 86.5 could have been differnt? Thanks

I had mine set for full on hard shifts, when that baby switched gears it would snap your head back into the seat rest hard enough to make you think about whiplash.

Darriens is just the opposite...too soft. We may have too strong of a vacuum heading back there to the modulator.
With the rear muffler on, it is deceptively quick.

Gotta love it...4 mins later i get my answer from Georgia and Alaska!

Drewster...
You mean at "wide open throttle" ?? Because my car (86.5)...will hold first gear to 6K, and then shift "firmly" to 2nd, which, (at continued WOT)...will drop the rpm to about 4200, and then shift again at 6K or thereabouts, and by then...holy bejeezuz...we're gettin with the program. So, in my case, wide open throttle, ISN'T the issue. Its the "lazy" part throttle shifting, that tends to "slide" into the upshift. And I'd prefer not necessarily a "tire chirp" hitting 2nd...but a noticeable, fast, drop in engine rpm, to a steady "next gear speed"...instead of a sloppy "slide". My tranny fluids been changed, (back in the summer)...and is still a pretty red. it has NO odiferous scent of burned clutches either. So, I think in terms of mechancal integrity...I am in pretty good shpe with this unit. Car has 114K miles FWIW...

Yes - (WOT) From first gear - it'll shift into 2nd at 5 thou (soft shift but no slipping) - from 1st to second it'll climb to 6 thou. From then on ????........I cant realy remember because by that time Im going 100+ mph.

Im guessing the two are not related (Points and firmness) -

Thanks for the reply.

Andrew, the next shift point occurs at 130-135 mph. At least that is what a little bird told me.
