Default Cassette Box Mounting Hole Concealment

I have removed the "cassette box" between the front seats. I installed a Sparco Evo 2 seat in the drivers position with no sliders, to gain headroom for a helmet during DE's. This gave me the headroom I was looking for but the cassette box was then in the way of my elbow when shifting. I took the box out and now all is well. Except for the four ugly square cutouts in the carpet/mat where the screws for the cassette box went. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a nice/clever way to cover these up in as "stock" looking a way as possible? Obviously it needs to be a fairly "thin" approach, or I might as well have the box back in. I thought of covering a piece of thin pressboard in carpet and mounting it with four screws in the existing locations. However, I don't have an appropriate piece of (blue) carpet. Does anyone happen to have a leftover "scrap" that might do the job?

I assume you aren't concerned about maintaining a stock appearance, so perhaps a rectangular piece of carbon fiber or brushed aluminum mounted with flush stainless hexhead fasteners.

I had irregular oblong holes (dealer install?) in my carpet when I removed the box.

I used bits of foam rubber to fill in the holes around the body brackets. I salvaged four small pieces of carpet from under the back seat; trimmed the pieces and the carpet to fit; and used house carpet tape* to secure them.

I doesn't look too bad, if the carpet is 'fluffed' properly.

*Sticky stuff!

Eric,

How large are the holes? If I remember right, the large plastic front carpet “nuts” might be a good candidate for this. They have a Looney sized head, and you will have to use some studs for the nuts to strew on to. Another option might be to go to Home Depot and look through the furniture hardware section. They might have some plastic bolts with large washer type heads.

I hope this helps!

the apropriot material, auto carpet or vynal can usaly be found at a fabric shop.short of re carpeting the car you will have to patch it like you say fastening will be another matter can you fasten each side of the patch under the seat bolts?

I'm liking the seeming simplicity of Imre's suggested approach. I haven't actually seen these plastic front carpet nuts though. They appear to be an 84 and on MY thing. Is this the part you're talking about: http://www.mailordercentral.com/928i...900%20685%2001 ? If these don't work out I'll probably try PorKen's approach and hope for favourable "fluffing" . Thanks to all for your suggestions.

Yup, those are the ones. If they don't cover the entire hole, you can always make some additional plastic washers out of a black empty oil can or something similar. Now that I think of it, you can probably make something like this yourself. All you need is a bolt with a nice smooth machined head and a large plastic washer to cover each hole. I’m sure you’ll come up with a nice solution.

See you at this winters Toronto GTG!
