-23 C- Dash cracked!!!!!!!!!

[QUOTE=Shark_gts]Plastics technology from 1988. Cosmetically it's a nice formulation, satin finish, good feel to it.
Like all plastics with age and UV exposure the stiffen up and get brittle - especially at -20 odd. To be expected...
WRONG-no disrespect, ok!
I've seen many a dash from that era and guess what!!? No Friken Cracks!! eg. My X wifes Audi 90- how beautiful a woman would feel at that er/age having no cracks, wrinkles nor shrinkage nor whatever- There is no excuse!
If I lived close to the Factory those squareheads would never seig heil me!

Are you sure you have enough antifreeze in your system for these temperatures? If the coolant froze, and the WP was blocked, the car would likely not start, I would guess.
I once had the coolant freeze in my Renault Fuego in Germany. It was a -32 Celsius night, and my protection was only up to about -27. The engine did not turn over (had a timing chain, not belt). It cracked the block, and eventually I needed a new engine.
My brother's car also had the coolant freeze. He tried to start it, and ddi not realize the WP was frozen. Tried to push it on. TB jumped - full valve job required.
Lots of $$$ for him, about same amount for me to buy a wrecked car and swap the engine.
Lesson learned: Don't live in cold climates!

Here in Olds Alberta we got down to -31C, two nights ago. I wouldn't even think of trying to start it right now. But the warm weather is coming for a short while, would like to get her out again, if I can get up the snow covered road to some pavement.
I saw a pretty hot SL mercedes bombing through the streets of Calgary last night, wish I had the guts to do that.

Mike,
Sorry to hear that. Your in such a cold climate, I hope you are on your way to get 5w-40 synthetic or some oil with a 5 starting number in it. Put an aftermarket engine block heater and I think it will help alot.
I knew the dashes sucked before I bought a 928. Is the leather any better? I bought the leather pod cover from Jager, not bad.

Malcolm.
I still haven't got it repaired, it is still "bleeding" cooloant under pressure. I tis not leaking when just sitting, I put a big piece of cardboard to see what I could catch, thankfully nothing showed up. On one of these Chinook wind days I will get it looed at......is yours put away for the year?
There are 4 of us on this thread alone that live within 3-4 hours of each other, let's plan a drive.
Brian you with us?
