Question Winter tires, flat dish wheels

In preparation for the snow that has been forecast this weekend, I'm going to have snows mounted on my spare flat 16" wheels originally from the 87s4. The wheels are currently shod with 225/50 fronts and 245/45 rear.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what size combination tires would work best. I'm planning on getting bizzaks or similiar.

Any good hydrophillic compounded 'ice radial' will work well - for far less $$, I've had excellent results with the Dunlop 'Graspic' series. For size, my choice would be 205/55R16 all around. That is an extra 1/2" stretch for the 8" rears, but will work. Alternatively, another pair of 7" flats can be had for mere peanuts ....

Like Garth, I have 205/55R16 snow tires on 7" rims. Mounted and balance, "WinterMark MagnaGrip" cost me less than $100/each. In three winters, I haven't had a problem going anywhere I wanted too.

I have 205/50 * 16 winter tires Yokos on standard 928s 16 wheels. Work fine and good for 120mph (legal here in places)

there is a good list of winter tire sizes for 928 in www.tirerack.com.

I haven't looked at actual snow tires - my 928s don't do snow - but, I know for a fact that All-Season M+S rated tires are not available in the stock 225/50 and 245/45 sizes. EDIT: Prove me wrong and I'll buy two sets!

For a good all-season M+S, the Michelin PS A/S is available in 225/50R16 and 245/50R16 ... and for a pure ice & snow, the Michelin X-Ice is available in 225/50R16.
Is that close enough to get 1/2 a set?
PS - my 928s never do snow either.

TireRack has 6 different "Winter Only" tires in 225/50-16. All of their "All Season" descriptions are M+S rated and 31 come in 225/50-16. You got 245/45-16 right.

225/50/16 all around.
Rotate them if you like. Wide enough to fit the 8" rear rims.
Running Michelin Pilot Alpins.
May switch to Hankook snows as JKempf has raged about them.
Though the newer version Pilot Alpins PA2's has got rave reviews

Sorry. No banana for you...

I have a set of Yoko's in 225/55 and 245/50. I didn't want to go with 225/50 245/50 because of the greater difference front to rear relative to the stock size.

I have a set of M+S Dunlop SP5000s on order in the stock sizes.... on order for 6 months now...

Went this route with Michelin X-Ice 205/55 16's all the way around.
Skinny tires!. Must be easy on the go pedal especially when switching lanes or she gets a bit squirrely.
Maybe I should have gone with the 225/55 16's? (oddly they didn't have them in 225/50 16).

That's a very good tire! I suspect the 205s will be more appreciated in the white & greasy stuff than on dry pavement - the squirrely feel is not so much a width issue as it is one of sitting on tall, 'wiggly' tread blocks full of sipes and no stabilizing solid ribs .... maybe you'll take up "drifting" in the dry.
