I made a mold and cast an adapter from urethane that screws to the tank filler and seals just as the original cap. The adapter has a short stub that a 2.25" ID hose will fit over. The metal filler flange has a stub for 2.25" ID hose too. The only problem is that the usual 2.25" gas hose is too thick and too stiff to go through the hole in the fender adapter and make the slight bend to fit to the tank. One solution is to make a mold and cast a short hose with a proper bend in it. I'm currently waiting for some flex urethane so I can try that. Another solution is to use a rubber hose plumbing adapter I found at Home Despot. It is thin enough wall thickness that it will go through the fender adapter and will make the slight bend to mate to the tank adapter. That hose survived a week immersed in gasoline without any sign of deterioration so I think it will work. I'll probably settle on that if the cast urethane hose doesn't work out.
Here is a pic to help see what I was trying to explain. The black thing is the male plug for the flex urethane hose.

In my experience with widebodies and flares, many people tend to overlook the angle at which the rear wheel goes into the fender well. In a custom application, when the clearrance is even around the tire, it is the REAR of the rear tire that would rub first. I'm currently suffering from this on one of my cars, and it hasn't been fun dealing with it. Note that in stock form, there is plenty of clearance back there, but if the bodyshop is touching that area too, do make sure to keep more room in the back than on top.
...just my $0.02
