Need Help... 89GT offset / spacers
#1
![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Recently I purchased some RH AG Cup, 10x18 et 54r w/ 265/35/18 & 8.5x18 et 56f w/ 225/40/18. what is the lowest offset for the front wheel one should consider. My front hub sticks out approx. 4mm. I was considering a 5mm spacer bringing my offset to 51 et. Will this create front end problems?
All help is appreciated
Thanx

Dave,
Do not use spacers on the front wheel. Joe from RH came up here last week and we spent a few hours trying some of his wheels on my 90. One of the wheels we tried was the exact one you describe and I pointed out the center cap problem to Joe. At the moment his supplier can only get that specific wheel center section, the solution I told him was to have some custom wheel bearing caps made, or have the customers mill 7mm off the back of the stock bearing cap. There is plenty of clearance inside the bearing cap to do this and it isn't hard to do. Keith W. out in CA just did the same thing on his 928 so he could mount the cool wheels he got recently. Of course the proper answer is to get wheels with the correct "pad" depth and you don't have this problem. However as we all know wheels for 928s are not hanging from trees and sometimes compromises need to be made in order to get the style or budget range of wheel you desire.

...mill 7mm off the back of the stock bearing cap.
I had the shoulders milled down, and it did the trick. One thing that also should be done is to have the new edges tapered a bit to prevent binding when going into the hub.
It would seem to me that if Joe could get some caps custom made to go with his wheels, he'd have the problem licked. I wonder how common this is with aftermarket wheel apps....

>Some have said that they were able to hammer the bulge of the cap down to get their caps to fit,
That works on some wheels, but even that will not cut it with those specific wheels mentioned. My caps were beat flat years ago because of all the wheel development I do and even mine stuck way out thru those wheels.

That was discussed, BUT most people want specific style caps and it is always best to make the wheel properly so the customer can use any style Porsche cap they want.

Actually it is more common with Porsche factory wheels from other models that people try to use on 928s, Sport Classics, etc, etc.
