Unhappy 1980 5 speed for sale

It’s time to sell the 928. We are going to be building a house and I will need a pickup truck for a couple of years so unfortunately the Shark must go. :-(

Check out the rennlist classifieds. It is listed at $5900 but I will consider offers. I'll also deliver it anywhere in California (one last ride!).

I bought it in May of 2003 and put the obligatory $3000 worth of parts into it. I still have the Devek PPI that I had done. I am quite happy with the way it drives and have loved owning the car and working on it. I would prefer to sell it to an enthusiast who will continue to take care of it.

1980 5 speed
Mileage 101,800

From the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity:

Optional Equipment:
- California emission

Full leather dash in great shape
Pod has no cracks or blemishes
Seats have some wear but no cracks or tears
Sony stereo/CD player
AC works great
Momo club 4 steering wheel with Porsche emblem
New window guides and switches
Carpets are in amazing shape, though the rear carpet has faded

Engine:
----------------------------------------
Runs beautifully, sounds lovely
Just passed CA Smog with flying colors
Timing belt was done at 93,000 in 1998
– Checked tension and appearance last month and it still looks in good shape
Oil gasket replaced in 2002 and recently snugged up
New vacuum hoses everywhere
New Aluminum Devek radiator (old plastic tank failed)
Pretty much every dodgy hose has been replaced
The blue hose still looks fine
New Anza muffler
New hood liner

Replaced Aluminum ball joints
Upgraded front end to 1985 version
- Height adjustable shocks

New front and rear pads, DOT4 (blue) brake fluid

Height adjusted to spec and aligned
Tires are Falken-G with plenty of tread left

Electrical:
----------------------------------------------
- Fully refurbished fuse panel, with new fuses
- Upgraded dash lights to white LEDs
- New flex circuit on cluster
- No current leakage (30ma) – car can sit for weeks and starts right up
- New power antenna

Body:
-----------------------------------------------
There is no sunroof. The body is in good shape. Paint is good, not great. One of the previous owners had it repainted. They did a fair job except for the front and rear bumpers. It looks like they left the clear coat off the front bumper. In any case it looks a little funky when you get up close. It also looks like when they did the repaint that they also replaced the side rub rails with some 3rd party ones. I have a set that I was going to have painted to match and installed but never got around to it.

What’s not working:
-----------------------------------------------
- High intensity washers (Had them working once, but useless IMHO)
- Cruise control will slowly lose speed (this is a new issue and may be a vacuum leak)
- Mirror heaters (never looked at them)
- Drivers side mirror electric adjustment works in one axis only (I have an extra mirror)

Other things that could use some TLC:
The clutch is slightly out of adjustment. The plates aren’t quite parallel and you notice this only when you start up in reverse and get a slight shimmy.

2nd gear synchro is showing some wear. This has been mitigated with Redline, and shifts well once the transaxle has warmed up. When it is cold (first 5 miles or so driving) you need to be careful not to grind second gear.

Other:
------------------------------------------------
WSMs are included with the car. The 1980 is a great model year to work on. It has the L-Jet fuel injection that seems to be less quirky than the earlier models and has fewer things to go wrong compared with the later models. The wiring diagrams are accurate for the 1980 and the current flow diagrams are much easier to read than the ones for later model cars. There are about 50 other things that I have done including replace window rubber molding on the doors, fix and replace interior lights, new door handle mechanisms, re-glued the door panel fabric, repaired the drivers seat frame, etc, etc.

$5900 obo.
