You mean the hub nut?

I agree, it is tight. You will most likely need a 6 foot scaffold pole on a breaker bar.

460 Nm/339 lb/ft to tighten - probably over 400 lb/ft to loosen...

A 3/4" drive set does make a surprising difference!

Yes - but they're not cheap (unlike me)

I simply took the car to a local shop and asked them to lossen the nut for me, I've tightened to approx spec using a 1/2" breaker bar. What's the worst that could happen? - I guess the wheels could fall off...

Paul,
take it back to the same shop or one that does trucks and is likely to have a 3/4 torque wrench and ask them to tighten to torque. Takes a minute and won't cost much and you have some peace of mind.

Thanks Jim, but I think I'm alright - 150 pounds stood on the end of a 24" breaker bar - probably near enough...

Yup, that's pretty close to the spec (339ft/lb). 150lb X 2ft = 300ft/lb! It's close enough to take to the the shop to have it tightned to spec.

I got the PS off last spring with a 2' breaker bar, BTW that was no picnic.

Try and put a floorjack under the new 3/4 extension and crank it up.
Should brake it loose fairly easy.
