The SMT-6 Buddy deal is primarily for individuals, not dealers, and involves obtaining a voucher number from Perfect Power at their web site, www.perfectpower.com. Then order a SMT-6 from the USA distributor, or other country where you reside. Give the distributor your voucher number. The distributor will send you a SMT-6 and get the "extra" SMT-6 from Perfect Power in SA. When they get the SMT-6s (all in one shipment from SA) the distributor will forward yours. I would get no better price by ordering multiples than I'd normally get by ordering 5 or more at a time. If anyone wants to take advantage of this, the distributor recommended doing it soon as the number of SMT-6 units available for this program are limited. The distributor said he did not believe the SMT-6 was slated for discontinuance since it worked on many more cars than the SMT-7.

I did order an SMT-7 for myself so I could try it and see if the triggering problem I have with the SMT-6 on my car has been eliminated. The SMT-7 does have some additional features that might be useful too. They do cost more with the retail around $563 vs. $389 for the SMT-6. I do know someone who could sell for significantly less though.

Thanks for the info! So this could be an excellent chance for someone to get ahold of an SMT6 for under $200 (assuming you have a buddy who wants one too)? I was a little curious because my friend is on the edge of needing some form of higher tunability (piggyback or standalone) for his M3. His options are either an SMT6, or this crazy setup: http://www.siastuning.com/ProdforSalePlugnPlay.htm

I think in the long run, if he continues to mod his car... he should just get the TEC3 (he has more money than he knows what to do with...), but this would be a nice solution for now so he can learn more about tuning instead of having me do it all =D

I'm really curious about that SMT7... when do you think you'll have it?

Decisions, decisions...

Sab, I signed up for a voucher. If you're still interested drop me a line at my home e-mail address whelan4(put the @ here)sio.midco.net.

Louie, this is what it says on the perfect power web site:

http://www.perfectpower.com/products/specialoffer.asp

Next, take this voucher to your local Perfect Power dealer where he will honor your deal. Should there be no dealer in your area, you are most welcome to contact Perfect Power directly where we will gladly assist you. "
--------

If there's any advantage for you, I would certainly get them through you versus the distributor. Otherwise I will contact the distributor directly.

That is close to what the Perfect Power distributor told me. The only difference is that when a customer, or dealer, buys a SMT-6 and gives them their buddy voucher number, the customer gets their SMT-6 full kit. However the "buddy" customer has to wait for the distributor to redeem the vouchers at Perfect Power. PP will send the distributor the buddy kits that only have a SMT-6, and wiring harness. It doesn't include the comm cable or bridging plug. The comm cable and bridging plugs are available separately. The distributor will then send them on to the customer, or dealer. The USA distributor wants to consolidate shipment of all the buddy kits for savings on shipping and duty cost. I do not get a break under regular list price unless I buy 5 SMTs at a time. I don't want to get into a situation where it appears that I'm trying to sell something here 'cause I'm not. I'm answering questions. I could help 928 owners get their SMT-6 for $50 under the normal list of $389.41 with no additional shipping cost. if we had 5 928 owners who wanted one, I can make that happen. When you got your buddy unit later, you could do whatever you wanted with it. Does that sound ok? Better contact me by PM, or email at louisott@direcway.com to go further.

I wish. More like 20% less for the SMT-7, or 10% less for SMT-6.

louis, thanks for the explanation. slowly but surely the whole tmixture/spark uning thing is making sense. i need to install an O2 sensor and then visit john speake, see what the 5.4 is doing. btw, i put a sump baffle in this engine along the lines of the one on your website (just not as pretty), seems to work fine.

Excellent on the sump baffle. I've not run mine yet so have some trepidation on what will happen with the oil control. I'm impressed with John Speak's tuner. I'll write up a post on it when I'm done tuning my car. When he gets the timing option going, it will be the ticket for those who want to get their car tuned with new chips and forget it. I like the autotune feature. it saves a lot of time.

If someone like Louie... is willing to offer a sizeable dicount for an SMT-6 with 5 or more orders, I for one will take a pair (one for me, one for buddy, in this case also me...). Now, we need at least 4 more. Who here is next??
So as not to put Louie or RandyV. or any other powers that be on the spot, either list your intentions here or email me. I understand that with 5 or more it would be $325. Pedro, Mike, BrianG....who else?

I have an even better idea. How about we split into groups of two and buy one buddy kit, then split the price? 50% off for both parties. Who's with me?

Uhh... that's what Scott was suggesting only he was saying pay 50% of $325 through Louis instead of 50% of $389 through somebody else.
