Default Hi from a newbie

Hello All. I have made it a life mission to own a Porsche after my first ride in a 924 remotored with an Audi 5 cylinder turbo. My favorite of all time is the 1987-1991 928 S4, but I have been looking around and am starting to fall for the 968 cabriolet. Are the 928s more expensive to own and maintain? I did drive a silver 1988 S4 a few times and absolutely loved the experience. It had the 4 speed auto. I would also like to drive a 944 and a Turbo (951) to get a feel for them. Please tolerate my seeming endless list of future silly and or repeated numerous times before questions. Look forward to getting to know you all in the future regardless of my purchase. As for the purchase it looks like Jan 2007 as we are buying a house, or at least trying right now. Thanks again.

Dan

I want to hear more about the 5 cylinder Audi powered 924. Do you have any pics of the engine?

Welcome!

Here is a thread you should read.

Harvey has a 968, but it doesn't have enough to keep him satisfied. He also has a 928 S that he quite openly says has his 968 beat hands down, so he is looking at a newer 928 to play with.

That was when I was 15 or 16 (just turned 35) and a member of my Dad's car club (AACA) had the 924 and his wife had a BMW 3 series cabrio. I begged to buy that 924, but my Dad said no. To think how my life would have been different with that car as a junior in HS! I lived in NJ at the time and had to wait until 17 to get my license.

wow, my username still works!

i sold my '87 S4 almost 4 years ago and i still miss it! (if i had a two car garage, it would still be mine.)
met Tigershark on the SVX forums (sold that, too), and now i'm driving an '05 turbo Legacy GT.

Tigershark, the 928 is where its at! right folks?

All porsches drive well....some better than others of course! 944-951's are good cars & fun to drive, but remember that the 928 was designed as Porsches flagship highest performance model, that also was luxurious too. Very few cars deliver such effortless performance in a package that you can drive all day and not feel tired! Sure the maintence is more than a honda, but its not bad if you do your own work (this forum helps so much in that area) and the 928 community is the best! Great people always willing to offer advice or even teach a newbie how to wrench a 928!
