Default Put away for winter.....

The car has now been put away for winter. I figured being an sunny 48F day would be a good time to do it before I get rushed into doing it when the snow is falling. So she got a bath, the battery came out, wing came off the back (cover is for a S not S4), windows were cleaned, seats were treated with leather cleaner, dash board armour all-ed, up onto jack stands, wheels came off, rotors and shocks were hit with a quick spray of Silicone to keep the water off (yes, they will be cleaned before she comes out next spring), Pads came out, and the cover went on. Lastly a little Sta-Bil in the fuel tank. I left the doors and hatch open slightly to keep the seals from sticking.

Now is the time to figure out what should be fixed this winter. Hmmmmm.....

Sway bar bushings, Drop links, shocks rebuilt, maybe new springs, Upper control arm bushings, wheels spacers for track use next year, and a new set of used front tires to get me through next year. The list has begun to grow, what else can I afford this year............

And you?

I'll drive it until the salt appears on the roads. ABout the only thing I do is throw some Sta-Bil in the last tank and pull the battery.

I've got quite a list of things to do this winter:

*Adjust ride height - Still can't get the driver front to adjsut, so I'll have to take it out - diassemble, adjsut, and re-install.
*upper BJ boots
*New sway bar and bushings
*New Clutch
*X-pipe
*Aero Mirrors
*Paint new wing
*Tint windows
*Check t-belt and set cam-gear timing
*SUPERCHARGER!

There's probably a few other to-do items that I'm missing, but those are the big ones. Should be all set in time for SITM '06.

I recommend a little bit of that silicone lube (spray on rag, apply with rag = no overspray into the car) on the seals. Keeps 'em bouncy and non-sticky while the car is safely locked up.

She's in my garage. And if they really want the original stereo, they can have it. Other than that, no reason to break-in other than to be a dick and just break the windows.

Went to the suppermarket last night with my other car after washing it. Some jackass spit on the trunk lid. Teenagers I assume. Love it.

I'll drive my early 86S right through the winter execpt on the snow days and severe salt days.
In most cases the roads are only undrivabale a few weeks every winter in NJ.
Full oem bra and mirror bras are in place.
Winter mods include Polygraphite sway bar bushings.Solid steering rack bushings and Koni gas struts & shocks. All parts are in the trunk waiting to be installed. Just waiting for the funds to free up. Mortgage comes first.!!.

Drive mine year round. OK, not on snow days. The roads are usually not too bad and the snow doesn't stay around for long. No salt on the roads here. They prefer us to tear them up with chains!

I keep saying I'm going to store mine...but the weather is too nice! I hear snow is coming soon to Michigan, so the fun may be over soon.

At the PEnfield Wegman's. Of course Penfield is full on rough kids nowadays. Bomb threats every other day at the high school. And two kids were arrested at the middle school.

Where in Webster are you? I'm in Fairport by the Wegman's on 31.

Here in SE Michigan they're saying 1"-3" the day before Thanksgiving, but I still think it's going to be a relatively warm and dry winter. I did cover mine and hooked up the battery maintainer just in case.

Maybe I'll buy a snow blower this year - that will almost guarantee we don't get any snow!

Car on stands, blocks under the suspension to keep the shocks slightly compressed and off the springs. CRC 6-56 marine preservative stuff is what goes on all the shock rods and other parts that suffer from possible corrosion issued during storage. Don't waste yopur time using WD-40 or silicone sprays for the metal preservation duty, unless you want to re-apply the stuff every week during the winter. Do the brakes, calipers, etc, but remeber to wash this stuff off before use in the spring.

Keep the critters out of the car by stuffing the air intakes and tailpiie with steel wool, cap them with something mouse proof. A very low wattage light bulb in the car can reduce condensation and corrosion/mildew damage somewatt. (sorry...)

Winter was here for a few days a few weeks ago, temps only made it to the 60's. Should be near 80 today. Humidity is high though, up near 40% RH thanks to a low-pressure system that's causing some clouds. Only problem is all the other folks that live here in the LA area with me. And they are all on the road right now and at all times day or night. Oh well... I was in North Carolina last week, perfect weatherfor the weeks I was there and it's truly a beautiful state. I left as temps plunged 20 degrees.

Curt,

I'm off Holt road near Webster Park.

Did I just read that Penfield High has had 15 bomb threats! Webster had a problem with that a while ago too.

All three "fair weather" cars go into hibernation every year on thanksgiving..........the storage area is heated, so I clean them, disconnect the battery after a charge, and cover them. Rodent patrol is the most important thing you can do for your stored car...............

I'm very careful about my shark, don't even drive it in the rain, but i still take it out during the winter on days that are nice and the roads dry, especially after a melt or rain. Try for twice a month.

As you know, we can get as much as 8 or more feet of snow in the winter (up in the mountains). Up here, there are no dry days until mud season is over.........
