He's been super busy so I've been unable to talk to him for any length of time over the past few weeks.

The weekend of Hacker's Packers/Bears party, I was at Todd's house right before heading over to Hacker's for the game. Todd's current wet-liner 6.1 Liter is running perfect. He has zero blow-by with the positive side-affect that his oil remains very clean.

In addition to the 7.0 Liter motor, he is building a wet-liner 5.5 Liter 'People's Motor'. The steel used for the cylinders are a high-grade (..I do not know the numbers) which he then heat-treats. While holding one in my hand, I couldn't help but think that I was holding onto a jewel it was so beautiful to behold; so much so, that I have placed an order for one, and will run a true 9.5:1 static compression ratio so that I can run low-boost, 5 psi, on the track.

That boy Todd is something else: a true modern-day, old-timer metal craftsman.

<--- That's Todd working on something in his garage.

Are these available to just anyone with enough cash? If yes, how much?

Don't forget to order the other seven :-)

Todd will build anything for anyone with the cash. The 5.5 liter is designed to be the best "all around" motor for people to purchase. Something he can produce in such a way to keep costs down vs. a 100% total custom job like the 6.1 in his car. IIRC the 5.5 uses the stock crank & rods helping keep costs well below your average stroker motor.

No estimates have been shared beyond his garage, I suspect we will hear something soon cost wise with this motor. I have a feeling Sway will receive the first one.

Todd and I have also talked about making a 16V version of this same 5.5 motor for my track car. 400rwhp is my goal for the 79 – should be a piece of cake even with 16V heads.

Just make sure the stock crank is drilled with the offer!!!!!

IIRC Todd has never modified a 928 crank on any of his motors. So I doubt this is part of the equation he's working on. I'll mention it the next time I'm over at his place.

Are the sleeves not Ductile Iron? Centrifically cast Ductile Iron sleeves are commonly available and have great characteristics for a cylinder bore, are you sure he used a heat treatable steel?

Yes

If you had to list all of Todd's skills - metallurgy would be at the top. He's been making cylinders for aluminum engines for over 20 years.

As Hacker stated, yes.

He starts out with a high-end grade of steel, and then heat-treats it to some standard. Also, I think the cylinder has a strength measurement of 300,000 psi vs ductile iron's 120,000 psi. Something like that; I'm not sure of the exact numbers.

I'm sorry, but does anyone else get totally turned on from this stuff?

I'd love to have a set of cylinders myself! Money isn't the easiest to come by, but I'm really impressed with Todd's stuff. Maybe one day I can shake that guy's hand for what he's doing for the 928 community. He probably doesn't even realize he's a pioneer in this...

Wonder if he'd be the one to fit the sleeves too? I'd certainly prefer it, but I'd have to ship my block half-way across the country and back...

Any completed engine photos or HP # 's on this wicked build? This tips the needle on the cool scale.
