Question S4 vs GT - difference in engine sound

I have had an 87 S4 auto for a while and I have now just got a 91 GT (both euro spec.). The GT is really quick and feels more sporty and responsive than the S4, but much more hard work to drive...

One thing though that i didn't expect: I think the S4 has a lot smoother and "classic" V8 sound, while the GT gives off a lot more mechanical (high pitch) noise, especially on high revs. It is hard to explain how it sounds differenlty, but at least i think there is quite a difference, and I actually like the S4 sound better. Any other with similar expecriences out there, or could this be something particular with my GT?

Your 87 probably had the larger 'S4' resonators. Your GT has the smaller 'GT' resonators. The S4 resonators muffle more than the GT resonators.
