Default Are my Lights Working Correctly?

Model '94 GTS, engine running.

Switched to position 1 - rear lights and corner/side markers illuminate - no front lights.

Switched to position 1 fog lights switched on - inside bumper lights illuminate as well as rear and side/corner lights.

Switched to position 2 low beam mode - headlights illuminate - no other front lights.

Switched to position 2 high beams activated - headlights on high beams, outside bumper 'driving lights' illuminate.

It seems the only time the outer bumper 'driving lights' illuminate is when the high beam mode is pushed forward on the turn signal stalk.

Is this correct operation?

That is correct. By law driving lights are for use with high beams, fog lights can only be used with low beams.

...you can of course rewire the relays if nobody is checking up on you.

Sounds right to me...

Fog lights are for fog only. They illuminate the area directly before the car and spread wider to the side. If you use them on clear nights, your eyes will adjust to the ligher area right in front of your car, and you won't see as well in the longer range. If it's wet, your oncoming traffic will be blinded by 8 lights - the four you have on, and the reflection of those four.

I use my fogs mainly when lights are required during the day, or when it's beginning to get dark but the headlamps are not needed, yet. I try very hard to remember to turn off the fogs when I switch to the full headlights..

It's correct Randy. Driving lights have a serious "throw" and would **** many folks off here in the states. It is wired to come in with the hi beams figuring you are going to pay attention to turning those off. However, you can daytime flash with your driving lights A cool feature that the older cars weren't wired for.

There is a relay that you can get from 928 Int'l to give you daytime running lights. There should be an open socket for this on your fuse panel. Joe Privitelli picked one up for me and it turns out my fuse panel has no wiring to this socket Yours may be different.

Randy,
Not sure but it sounds like mine work a bit differently...

Switched to position 1 - rear lights and corner/side markers illuminate - no front lights. **** Yes Same

Switched to position 1 fog lights switched on - inside bumper lights illuminate as well as rear and side/corner lights. *** Yes Same

Switched to position 2 low beam mode - headlights illuminate - no other front lights. *** My foglights stay on with low beams....

Switched to position 2 high beams activated - headlights on high beams, outside bumper 'driving lights' illuminate. *** Yes same

With low beams on and fog lights on if you pull the stalk (towards you - flash mode) you should get driving lights + fog lights + main beam. The brightest option...

Keith my '94 does have wiring for the daytime running lights - want to sell a relay?

Alan.

Alan, what does the daytime running light wiring on a 928 do?

Alan, on my 93, pull the stalk and you lose the fogs and low beams, you gain hi beams and driving lights.

Yea, I'll sell the relay..make me an offer.

Matt...it allows the drving lights to be on when ever the car is switched on and running. No other lights are on. Similiar to the Vette with the front constant yellow running lights.

Keith, that is correct, but fixable.

OK, guys - thanks.

Mine works the same way as yours in position 2 with the fog lights on, Alan - thanks.

The reason I asked is 'cause on my former '79 the bumper 'driving lights' would illuminate in both position 1 and position 2 low beam mode.
