Default Light in the Engine Compartment

My 93 GTS's hood light goes on as soon as the hood latch is pulled. I thought that the light was only supposed to come on when the lights are on?

Was there a change for the GTS'?

Kevin,
Mine comes on whenever the hood is open also - thats how its wired not sure when from - but I think it may have changed with the electric aim adjusters on Euro's since it is wired in the same loom (that is otherwise empty on US cars)

My engine compartment light does the same thing. Comes on when the hood is opened (maybe when it's unlatched) whether the headlights are on or not.

Well, I like to pop the hood to draw the heat off the engine to save the rubber bits in the engine bay. I think I'll unplug it from now on.

Thanks.

Are you guys saying the light comes on even when the motor is NOT running and the hood is opened?

Kevin, I do like you, when I shut the car off I open the hood to help get rid of the heat and preserve the bits in the engine bay. NONE of the under hood lights on any of the 3 GTS I've owned have come on with the engine off and the hood opened. In fact, the 78 is on the lift with blue GTS is sitting underneath and the hood open for the last few weeks and no lights on. The lights only light up when the engine is running and the lights are on and the hood is opened. Go figure.

This "change" happened in 90 or 91 with the newer style hood light.

Hmmm, I don't have an under-hood light at all. Didn't even know there was one.
Where's it supposed to be? I haven't even seen a burned out bulb.

You guys are a bunch of funny bastards.

Sub its on the pass side attached to the hood and mine only comes on when the engine is running and headlights are on at least thats the last time i saw it in my euro. There is a little pressure switch right near the brace bar.

BTW light malfunction is a sure sign of tranny failure!

GTS under hood lights are on the cross member in the center of the underside of the hood.

Yep, just went out and double-checked mine. It operates just like the interior courtesy lights. Pop the hood with the car off and no headlights on, and it lights right up.

Does this mean I need a 3.09 rear axle?
