The switch for the hood light is known to fail However, it is most likely that the switch seperated at the barrell casing. You can probably get it to work correctly again. I had to R&R mine (the thing basically gave way and kind of exploded) and it works like it should now. It is located on teh right (passenger) side of the car at the cross brace. Check you striker plate attached to the hood as well.
Be aware also, that this switch has another function as well. It is a KILL switch for the electric fans...a safety switch so to speak. Under heated conditions, your electric fans should run after the ignition has been turned off. If the hood is opened, the pressure switch is released which interrupts the circuit. This eliminates any possibility of injury should the fans arbitrarily decide to come on.
Lastly, once you have fixed this little bugger, you may think "Oh ****, now the light is going to stay on as long as my hood is open. I can no longer display this beautiful piece of artwork without having to get a jump from a '67 F100 at the end of the day!" Do not fret, the draw from this light is so minimal, that you could probably leave your hood open for 24 hours and still crank the car with no issues. (MAYBE!)
I have left mine open for an entire day (early morning to late afternoon) at concours/showings and the car cranks after with no hesitation.

Keith,
Alternatively - you can unclip the plastic light cover (easy) and pull the connector if you are going to have the hood open for a while - I did this at Sharktoberfest since the hood was up all day (of course I then forgot to plug it back in for a week...). Agree the draw is not huge...

I thought the plunger switch on the side was for an alarm (!!hood open!!) - mine has exploded and seems non-functional? I have a small bulb on a bracket on the hood, and it comes on as the hood is raised past horizontal, maybe only when side lights are on, cant remember the details. The base of the bulb holder apparently has an internal mercury switch to do this.

Alan...mine was open all day WITH the light ON ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
jpitman2...now that you mention it, the switch also triggers the alarm for the hood if the car is locked and armed. Me forgot! I remember my neighbor bitching about his 928's alarm going off all hours of the night and pissing off the other neighbors. Turns out it was this very switch.
It is apparrent that this is a multi functional switch!
