Buying a GTS!
Sounds like both the buyer and seller are both a bit nervous. I can't say I blame either party for being cautious. 40K is alot of money to just send off, and that GTS is a lot of car to let drive away unless cash is in hand. Hopefully both parties can come to an agreement so everyone is happy in the end. I know I was nervous sending $4200.00 to the seller in FL when I bought my 84S, sight unseen. Fortunantly the seller was a stand up guy, not to mention a fellow Rennlister and it all worked out fine. If you can spare the time to fly out and drive home, I would highly recommend that option. Ask me how I know!
Have the executed Bill of sale and Title sent to you by FedEx......register the car in Maine......fly out and then have the funds wired....you get the keys and go...Or you could have the seller leave the car at the local Porsche dealer and have it shipped
I have been on the buying and selling end with Porsches for a lot more money that you have at risk....I have found that a gentleman's code always governs

Nothing wrong with being cautious. Doesn't mean you have to get paranoid. I am more concerned that you see and drive the car before purchase. You can do the wire transfer or the escrow and still be unhappy with your purchase.
I'm a handshake kind of guy, but all that means is that my word is good. Fly out there and have a ball. Expect the best, but prepare for the worst. Best of luck.

There is not local Porsche dealer, nearest is 2-1/2 hours away from the seller and I don't think he'll travel there with the car.
I need to find out if wired funds are transferred in a matter of minutes or an hour. I have this feeling that it may be one of those deals where it takes 24 hours for the money to clear or something like that.
I'm getting the feeling that I need to fly out there with a suitcase full of cash. Of course, that has it's difficulties too.
Why does this have to be so difficult?

Get a bank account with a national bank, one that has branches in every state. Deposit the 40 grand while at home, fly out, check out gts, drive to bank, get cash, sign over car in front of notary (all banks have one), then get out of town with your new gts. No difficulties, no worry about your car being mistreated by a shipper and no sleepless nights!
Stans red GTS is very nice....I like the tan/black piping on the seats with the embossed crest in the head rest. Very nice. I vote for flying out and driving it back yourself.....if you use a large national bank it wouldn't be hard to walk into a branch there with the seller and verify your funds and get a cashiers check or even 4 stacks of high society!
