Rear Fender Flare Ideas????
Today, I'm starting Phase II of the 928 renovations on my Black S4 which will be to take out all the mirrors and replace them with mini-cam's with three 2.5" color screens thatv will be built-in the top of my dash to look factory. Then after the Fuel Injection gets installed (next week?) I'll take it to the body shop for some reshaping (see photoshopped picture) which will include redo-of the hood scoop (so it looks more factory, than Camaro) and side gills. This however will make the car stylistic "front heavy". So I'm going to stay with the 18" wheels up front and get 19"x10" for the rear, then get the rear fender modified to bulk up and balance with the front.
Since all seams and lines will be smoothed out and even the door handles will be shaved, I need a very smooth look, not like some flares were bolted on, which eliminates the 928 motorsports flares. The shop (Vescio's in Rogers Minnesota) can custom do anything, but if there are nice looking flares that blend into the sides without vents of scoops it would most likely save a few $$$. Also, black will not show the sculpting unless perfectly clean... so I'm changing the color... my wife prefers Orange (she's not complaining about the $$$'s so I may give in) but I'm not sure what color will work.
Any thoughts?
Rick

Three Wheelin'
I like your idea of radiusing the rear wheel wells to more closely resemble the shape of the front wheel wells. I have wondered if doing this would make flaring them easier?

I saw that posting... interesting, but the wheel opening matches the factor... too large and long... the flares I want will match the new rear whell ... I want round gentle flare somewhat like the new Aston V8

There is a gray car poeted here somewhere that has the flare come into the door and also has lower sills. Looks really nice. I don't like the ones that stop at the door. Looks unfinished. I will search for the picture later.

Are your "shark gills" going to open all the way to the engine bay to pull out hot air, or are they just decorational?
And are you going to make the front wheel opening more round to match the rear?

i like the photoshopped image. someone did post on here a while back, i think in europe with a red GT?? they had flared fenders with a more curved radius, looked good. personaly i like orange on a 928 and i went for the lamborghini murcielago colour. i also like the pale green they do... have fun choosing the colour!

The front wheel well looks good like it is... the rear looks too long, so I'm leaving the front as is...
The gills will be as deep as we can make them without obstruction and will most likely be closed off for looks only, as it will keep the inside of the fenders clean. If possible, I may do them in a plastic that is slightly transparent and back light them, and then if possible tie that to a new electronic tach I ordered which uses lights instead of a needle, then have the gills increase in intensity as the engine revs. This will have to be on a switch to be street legal in Minnesota.

Rick: Be very careful with the rear wheel arches. There are very good reasons why the original wheel arches were not round - If you make them round like the wheel, the whole area will look massive - too massive.
Look at the dp 928 conversions - they are butt ugly, and one reason is the massiveness of the fenders, caused by making the arches round and close to the wheel. There is just too much body area on them!
Since you can't make the arch larger without getting the SUV look, you have to come up with some other visual tricks. If you were to introduce any new lines or edges, you'd lose the sculpted Porsche look. Also, keep in mind the design consistency between front and rear - you would probably want the front and rear to live in some kind of harmony.
So what options do you have, other than making the arch a hint oval to square, as the original? Not many - unless, of course, you like dp 928s and mullet style hair cuts.
PS: Some time ago we saw a coinversion fro South Africa, which had the same issues. You mgiht want to search for the thread and look at the pictures.
