I provide considerable technical support and diagnostic support to potential customers (and often their repair shops that aren't intimately familiar with the 928) - and over 50% of them end up finding out that the LH isn't their problem. It doesn't do me any good to sell something that isn't needed and have the customer find out that it doesn't fix their problem.
To illustrate my point, I got this customer email this evening
I just picked up my 928 at the repair place. They said they found and changed a relay and have not had a problem starting it again. I stopped a couple times on the way home and it lit off every time also. I've got my fingers crossed. You can be sure I've got your page bookmarked for the day comes when I have to replace/fix the ECU.
They said your trouble-shooting info was helpful and I really thank you for you expertise. I don't know how long I can keep my fingers crossed though!
Take care.
So, IMHO I UNDERSALE LH rebuilds!

My experience, via Rich, was that my LH tested fine when it arrived at his shop. I had him do the rebuild anyway. When I re-installed it the car ran again and has been running great for the last 1000 miles or so. The car wouldn't even start before I had the LH rebuilt. There was NO pressure to just do it, the decision was mine and I am very happy I made the choice to have the work done regardless of the bench test results.
