How can you drive a 928 without a battery?

Inquiring minds want to know.

You don't need the battery once the car is started - the alternator makes all the juice needed. However the battery provides a fair amount of voltage control so it's not a good idea as you may fry your electronics.

It seems like there are too many variable here to even chance it, especially with a electronic sensitive 928.

"ALSO SOMETIME IN THE PAST SOMEONE INSTALLED A BATTERY CUTOFF SWITCH IN THE BACK BUMPER. (THIS IS WHY I THINK THERE IS A DRAIN AND NOT THAT IT HAS A BAD BATTERY)

UNDER THE DASH THERE IS A SECONDARY STARTER BUTTON. APPARENTLY SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL NOT START BY THE KEY, SO YOU HAVE TO TURN THE KEY TO THE "RUN" POSITION AND PUSH THE BUTTON. "

I can only imagine the length of the to-do list that the lucky winner will have...
Chapter 1: Electrical Repairs
Chapter 2: Electrical Repairs, continued
Chapter 3: There's a Timing Belt? Oohh...
Chapter 4: Return to Electrical Repairs

Also notice the condensation running down the *inside* of the rear hatch window.

It is hell on the alternator but it will run the car.

It will run the car until the load changes faster than the voltage regulator can respond. This is usually a matter of a second or two. At that point, the alternator voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage of one or two or six diodes, and the alternator is history. Moral: NEVER try to run the car without a battery installed.
